For what it's worth....my basement got flooded last year. It had laminate wood flooring. That stuff had to be ripped out. We replaced it with PVC laminate wood flooring. Clicks together like the older wood stuff, but since it's pvc, it's water resistant, and it flexes. So it might be worth a consideration if you ever want to pull up the carpet. I'm not suggesting you run out and tear the carpet out....just that don't let the flex scare you from the flooring perspective.
