Dinette slide out problem

Hi all, anyone have ideas on this one, any slide out experts?

The dinette slide out seems to "pivot" on the top of the dinette seat when extending or retracting. This causes the two bottom side edges to separate from the side wall. When this happens the side wall cannot return to the inside of the edge angle piece and it rips trying to.
Also the top seal of the slide has about a 1/2" gap when the slide is extended.

It seems to me there are some missing screws along the vertical line where the dinette seat backs are attached. (?)

The coach is a 2004 Gulf Stream 5230, it has a raised floor slide with a single gear driven slide mechanism mounted under the center of the dinette, a roller on either side, at the outer wall of the coach.

Any advice is appreciated.
  • Many thanks to all that replied!

I found that the inside adjustment plate had slipped and needed to be raised, the slide now operates smoothly. The platform is level and travels in and out without the "Pivot" effect, it now looks like a solid unit as it moves.

    Happy camping to all.
  • This pic shows the white plastic strip. If you stand on the slide floor while it's partially or totally in, you can crack this piece. It will be broken under the RV and is difficult to see.
If broken, this could easily cause the center to be higher.
After breaking mine, I added the rollers. Slide works much nicer with them!

  • First off, locate all the areas where the slide slides. Clean those rails with something like acetone on a rag or brake clean. Slide lube plus dirt and dust makes a really good sticky surface. Once you have them clean and lubed with a slide lube, not just any old thing that will collect dust, then get back to us. My slides get weird sometimes, even forced the slide motor to overheat and shut off, all due to dirty slides.
  • It's really hard to picture whats going on. Any chance you could post some pics?
Often times those slides ride on a strip of white plastic that's affixed to the floor of the unit at the front of the slide.
If you walk on the slides floor while it's in the "in" position, it brakes this guide and the floor of the slide isn't supported equally across its length. (Learned this one the hard way...)
