We have lost the seal in two side windows in our 2007 HR. We have to replace the glass because the etching is excessive and cannot be cleaned. The question is, do we use tempered glass as was originally installed or just standard glass? OEM or after market widows for this coach do not exist. Opinions and similar experience are welcome.....thanks to anyone who may respond.
Hi Ray, you could try VISONERV.COM It's basically an RV Salvage company and they have HR & Monaco units in their inventory. Also if you check out this site you can play was it: A. an engine fire B. a refrigerator fire C. a crash
Try using a wool bonnet on a drill and white polishing compound. That will usually polish out the etching and let you reuse the glass. You could get away with having laminated glass (like the wingshield) cut. Classic car people do that all the time but double pane windows are so much better. Anything without the air gap will be so much colder when the temperature drops. Single pane is for people who live and stay in Florida! You sleep so much closer to a window in an RV than you do in your house and when the window is 12" away you can really feel the cold sliding off of it..and get a lot of frost buildup when it's cold out.
We just replaced the dual pane entry door window in our 2006 Horizon. My brother is in the glass business. He said it MUST be tempered glass in a vehicle as standard plate glass will create deadly shards in an accident. The tempered glass will just create glass nuggets. What is interesting is the windshield is not tempered glass, but the two layers of standard glass are sandwiched with a layer of clear plastic material between to keep it all together in a crash.
