I guess I was thinking there was no boat trailer if carried on the Jeep.

We triple towed for years with a fifth wheel (and I don't give a rats if you correct-o-mundos want to call it something else - it's been called "triple" for generations where I grew up). I also drive a "Class A", not a "Type A" as some folks would like to have me change to.

It would seem the showstopper behind the Motorhome would be the length. Starting with 44', I'm actually a little over in some states already just with the Jeep. Colorado would be 70', but that would leave much of a trailer behind the Jeep.

30 foot trailer ? and what about the weight of moving that around, might as well and stay with my stacker..

How about getting a longer trailer. Hook the boat trailer up to the jeep and then pull them both up on the longer trailer. The sale of the stacker would probable cover the cost of a longer trailer. What to do with a @ 30' overall trailer at a camp ground has been my hold up for going this route.

Removing a 50hp motor and unhooking the steering cables and other wires is not a option, also a trailer and my boat will weight about 1000 lbs, my Jeep is not designed for this much weight even with a rack.

I have explored doing what you are suggesting but I am already at 61' with a 36' MH and chevy Silverado toad. While current CA vehicle code is being interpreted as legal with the two I cannot stay under the 65'.

On a side note I have seen an increase in truck, TT, and utility trailer going down the highway safely and have not seen one on the side of the road having a conversation with the highway patrol.

My estimate length will be 66 foot, could get a shorter boat trailer and might get my length down to 65 foot.

However I am leaning towards getting a midsize truck and setting it up to carry a trailer/boat, this seems the best way to go and still be legal in all states.

length is going to be your enemy. Legality is a whole problem in and of itself. I have followed it in CA for the last 20 years and have seen the vehicle code language change and interpretations of the code vary by enforcing departments. The one common for CA is the 65' limit.

I know of a lot of RVers and RV-related web sites that call towing two trailers "triple towing", but I know of no states that define it that way officially. (I could be mistaken there, of course.) They may refer to triple combination vehicles or something like that, but that's not at all the same as triple towing.

Regardless, triple towing makes no logical sense if there are two trailers. It would follow from such usage that double towing means pulling a single trailer, and single towing means not towing any trailer at all.

Knew a guy who towed a boat behind his 5th wheel. He said it was legal behind a fifth wheel only, and not us motor home, because the fifth wheel was not towed with a tow bar, but rather a fifth wheel hitch. Said most states only allow one tow bar and that one tow bar is behind the fifth wheel. The fifth wheel hitch is not a tow bar so it doesn’t “count” . The unit behind the fifth wheel was the one tow bar. Don’t know if this is accurate , but was his explanation.
