Electric step is not moving

I have electric single step on MH that is not working, the electrical relay or switch was replaced a couple of years ago. I can here switch energizing and light comes on but no movement. Can you help me on this.

Thanks
  • Try lubricationg the pivot points and working it. Disconnect the motor from the step if you need to.
They will hang up if not kept lubed
  • Look under the steps. See if wedge looking gear is stripped.

    Hope this helps.
  • The step motor engages the step via a pivot joint which connects to the step via a small metal bar held in place with a cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin and pound out the metal bar .. the step will now move freely. After you remove the metal bar observe whether the pivot joint moves when the door opens/closes -- if it doesn't (and you can hear the motor running) then it's likely a stripped gear -- if it does then the step is binding on something and needs to be lubricated or maybe realigned.
  • Try tapping (lightly) the motor with a small hammer. Often the brushes get stuck, and this will temporarily free them and allow the motor to operate.
Note: Always keep your hands etc clear of the step mechanism !

DO NOT get under the step, while you work on it..
  • New step motor from auto parts store is a little less than $50.....Pass side power window motor fits several models of Ford.
