Electric Windshield Shade Issue

The day shade on our windshield is having mechanical issues, it goes up or down in small increments. We have to bump the switch many times to get it to move. We think it is a MCD brand from Texas, has anyone else had this issue? If so, what did you do? Thanks for any assistance you can give.

That happened on ours... reprogramming did nothing except reset it to the starting point. After a few hours on the road it would gently move back down. We were under warranty, and they replaced the motor and all has been well for the last year .
  • Mine had that problem. I tracked it to a bad circuit in the lift motor assembly. I think it was an overload circuit. I removed it. I redid the wiring and so far it has been working.
  • It sounds like the programming has a problem. The blinds can be programed with the two wires hanging off the motor end. There is a specific sequence and MCD has directions on the proper procedure to successfully reprogram the blind. Not hard, but has to be done correctly. I'd try that first.
  • Also, there are two different switches and the same thing happens on either one, so I have figured it's probably not a switch.
  • First if it has any type of extended warranty, I'd check into it. Second I'd start with the switch and see if you can jumper the up and down wires to bypass the switch itself which could be causing he problem.

After that you'd have to trace it back. It could be a number of things. The motor, bearings, any type of gears/pulleys etc. Some may be stuck, some may need just a tiny squirt of wd-40.
