Ever had your mirrors hit by a pasing truck?

Got one smashed on a bridge where I had the right of way and the truck driver pull onto it anyway. He was very apologetic and paid for it. Had a car passing me and he got too close and left a 3 ft black streak on the side, of course it's white so the stripe shows up well.Broke his mirror.

Well, if we want to go into general side-swipe accidents, I was traveling from Elkhart, IN to Berrien Springs, IN. As we traveled along the Interstate construction cut the lanes down to the right lane only. Plenty of warning, Janet following behind in the "new" toad while towing the old one. An 18 wheeler decided he would take me from the ending lane....which he could not. I tried to pull as far to the right as possible to avoid the obvious crash but could not go any farther than the guard rail. I tried to stop the driver and he would not look over. I pull in front and slowed down. He kept trying to go around. NOT HAPPENING. Called 911 and told them what was going on. They said they were sending Troopers. Miles went by and while he was still stuck behind me there were no police. I was on the phone the entire time with 911. Ahead there was another construction site and another 1 lane work site. I told the 911 operator that I was simply going to come to a stop in the construction zone to ensure this driver did not get away with running me off the road. The operator pleaded with me NOT to do that assuring me that a Trooper was coming lights and siren and would be there in minutes. I slowed but continued on. Sure enough, minutes later I could see the Trooper coming, waved to him that the truck behind me was the issue and we were both stopped on the side of the road. The big problem was that Janet wanted to get out and punch this idiot in the face since he has really messed up "her house". The trucker first said "what?" "where?" Then it was something like "I remember a construction zone" and then after a bit of conversation he finally said he really should never have been in that lane. Repairs cost $17,000 of which I had to pay $1000 for the deductible. About a year later I got a check for the $1000 after the drivers insurance paid the bill in full.
To this day Janet has no real love for any trucker.

i was sideswiped by a semi going north from las vegas;. went thru the canyon north of mesquite, and was passed several times by a semi. when her finally got near me the lase time, he apparently had a little road rage, and sideswiped me.
he wouldnt stop to exchange insurance info. he destroyed my rear view mirror.
i called 911, and reported him. the utah dps caught him and had him return to the flying j lust south of cedar city. utah officials called arizona dps and had them handle the report, and the tickets.
they asked him how fast he was going. he said 65 mph. i told them the speed limit was 55 in that area. ticket #1 speeding
he refused to stop for me when i signaled him. ticket #2 failure to stop at an accident.
i told them he had not signaled a lane change. ticket #3 failure to signal lane change.
the officer asked him if he reported the accident. he said there was no damage that he saw, so he didnt report it. ticker #4 failure to report an accident.
if you are wondering why the officers were so hard on him? when he came up to me at the beginning, he said one of the officers was a real smart a==, and that i had no business reporting him. after all, he was a professional driver, and i was in his way. just a side note, over the last 15 years, i have put over 400,000 miles on three motorhomes.
i simply went over to the officers and asked "which one of you is the smart a++,
they wanted to know where i got that from. i pointed to the driver.
i went as far to email his boss, and send him a bill for my new mirror. the boss apologized, and paid the bill without questioning.

Back when my Dad was alive he had a mirror clipped.

After that we adjusted his out front like ours are - and where they should all be IMO.

I'm not sure I'd buy an RV that only offered the fixed left mirror, sticking out way too far for safety.

Heck getting through some toll booths at a low speed is sometimes a challenge. We're already pushing it at 8 1/2 feet wide. Why stick the mirror out another 10-12" and push it even more.

Atlanta, I think, passing semi hit passenger side mirror didn't do any damage.
Of course if we hadn't hit the brakes and scooted as far left as possible he would have take off the front of the coach. Called GHP and then the number on trailer. Said their semis couldn't go but 65. A California freight company.
GHP pulled him over. He got back on the road and he was going to get his .30 caliber and a bunch of nonsense, on the CB.
That was the second semi. The first almost took us out too but turned into the airport entrance from 75. I'm glad we had good brakes.

Yeah!! Day 2 of our 3 month long trip around the US. Tractor trailer made right turn and the trailer took out the passenger mirror. Managed to get over, go right and get the truck to stop. Driver was with company safety officer. Took 6 weeks but they eventually paid for a new mirror. Fortunately with a little duct tape made the mirror barely useable, but was better than waiting for a week + for a new on in the small town.

not in our MH but in the School bus i was driving. narrow city street, just made my first drop off of the afternoon run, and started to the next. car comes out of side street into my lane i move to the right as far as i could go before hitting the curb. a tree limb hit the right side mirror and broke it. of course a broken mirror puts a school bus out of service where it is, cannot be moved until replaced. sure made for a long day. Also i was glad that a lot of the kids saw the car that almost hit us.

More fun is to lose both mirrors at same time. Bridge got passenger side as semi got driver side

Yes, by a Fed Ex set of doubles entering I-5 in Portland, Oregon. The Fed Ex driver kept coming toward me and I couldn't move over to the next lane due to a car camped out on me. Just a scuff mark on my mirror.

For me it was an idiot RVer. We are all just trying to get into the Rally in Indio, CA and he decided that rather than following directions he would turn left. How could you not see it coming when you pull into the left turn lane right beside another Class A in the through lane. It cleaned his mirror off the coach and shattered the glass in mine. We traded information but it really was not worth the effort to collect the small cost involved when I found a perfectly good replacement part.
