Experiences with pepple responding your selling ad

Trying to sell my Class C and I am running into some weird people. Have you had this experience?

Seasoned CL sellers would agree with me 100%, the casual buyer/seller is in La La land.

gee, that would be my first question if I was interested in an item on CL. has it been sold and the ad with it removed hasn't had time to be posted yet. seasoned sellers aren't too bright IMHO, they aren't sellers they are advertisers.

the last item I sold was a Johnson "hookah" scuba gear jobby, got a call and was asked if it was still available. I said yes, if he would have said it will take 45 minutes to get to my house I would have held it. somebody showed up at my door and bought it. minutes later Mr. don't ask/don't tell showed up and said "oh shucks".

Why waste a sellers time with dumb questions, if the ad is there what is the problem..duh...

Not at all. In my ad I put the following"If you are reading this the item is still available, I will remove the ad once it has been sold". Having sold tons of items on CL , I have experienced every type of weirdo, scam and no-show there is. If you read enough ads you will see other posters doing the same thing.
When I first started posting I was asked that question and I responded by asking them a question, I did not receive a response . The scam now is to ask for your personal phone number or personal e-mail account. Remember, e-mail lists are sold to companies and they will spam your account.
ANY e-mail I get for whatever and I didn't ask for gets spammed, I unsubscribe even though I didn't subscribe and my personal phone number IS NOT an identification number for any store or business. Plus, I have to resort to not answering my phone if I do not have the number in my contact list because some jerk sold it to a contractor web site .
What we have experienced with our land lines is now happening with our cell phones. Telemarketing hasn't given up.

Having said all of that I have experienced a bunch of smooth transactions selling tons of stuff.

I sold our Journey on Craigs list, no problem had 1 dealer come and want it for nothing, then had the buyer come, also sold my brothers car on Craigs list, only dealt with local people

Good response. I'll add that when the first question is "is it still available" I ignore the response. ALWAYS get their phone number first, I am getting spam on my cell phone, ticks me off. Meet is a safe place.
The legitimate buyer will pursue you and honor reasonable requests, if it sounds weird it is. Meet at your bank and have your bank help with the transaction, that is what banks do.

I've been using Craigslist for years to sell a wide variety of things, including RV's. This is what works for me. Never give your contact information in the ad. I make them give me their phone number then I call them. If they start with a weird story I hang up. If they sound serious then I ask them if they have the money. If there's any stuttering I hang up. I take only green money, and then I test it with the pen testers to make sure it's all good. I know a guy who took $10,000 out of US Bank, and discovered that $3000 was counterfeit. I build hot rods as a hobby, and yes, trying to sell one requires patience and smarts. I ask a lot of questions, helps weed out the serious people as opposed to those who'd waste my time, and there are a lot of time wasters.

I had two craigslist transactions today. Both went as smooth as possible (with the possible exception of a snow squall while test driving a used car).

One of them even emailed me after the fact to thank me for making the transaction go so smoothly.

sellers often are upside down and price accordingly for what they owe, which is way more than it is worth.

there are a lot of people in the world that are a bit more "weird" than we ourselves are...

when it comes to selling, even when selling a perfectly good item at a low givaway price, someone will throw a lowball offer at you hoping you will take it...

and on the other side, some people think the POS that they are selling is a piece of Gold, and they wont budge on the astronomical price they have it advertised at.

when selling or buying, it pays to check and see what like items are selling for in your area, and price your item accordingly, KNOWING that you may have to come down 10-20% just to allow the buyer to feel like they're getting a bargain on it...

and when you are able to be FAIR in your pricing and negotiating tactics, then you can ignore the weirdos and know that you arent one of them....

I had a guy call me giving me a story about his home burning down in the Southern California fires. He had no where to go. Wanted me to help him out with a low price he offered, too low I said. He then started bumping his offer up.He wanted to come and see it. When he was 2 hours late, I called him and got a weird response from him. In one sentence he said he ran into heavy traffic, then said he did not have the money nor could he afford the gas(50 miles away). I knew he was nuts and said o.k. and hung up. He did not have a home that burned. I was able to sell to a very honest gentleman from out of state. Only took one week on Craigslist to sell. I was getting ready to cancel the craigslist ad and go another selling route. Thank for all your replies!

We had been looking for a nicer home for many years. Went to many open houses.
About a half a dozen years ago I saw a place on Craigslist, that perked my interest. So I contacted a realtor that I had met going to open houses, to go with us to look at the place listed on Craigslist.
With our realtor friends help we bought the place.
House built in '94, older 55' x 88' pole barn, 17+ acres, 3/4 acre pond, and a wood lot.
I wish the house floor plan was a little different, put it is a real nice place.
It's kind of hard for me to believe that we found this place on Craigslist.
