The brake is engaged all the time. When apply 12 volt power to the motor, that electrically releases the brake. When no 12 volt power to the motor the brake engages. You flip that end lever to manually release the brake. Most do NOT have a socket/bolt to ratchet the room in. I use the release to easily remove each of the 2- 1/4 inch bolts that mount the drive shafts to each end of the motor, then you can easily with 2 or 3 people push the room in or out. If the brake release lever has been released accidentally, then when the room is fully retracted, it will pooch out 1 to 3 inches since the brake is not engaged. When this happens you go to the motor and re-engage the brake lever. Then fully retract and the room will then stay tight retracted. Doug
