First A Class...input from Winnebago Adventurer owners!

So I've been off and on for a new toy hauler for the family and we have opened up to a diesel class A.

Now I'm not an rv newbie as we have owned them for the last 8 years or so. I'm familier with the normal stuff and I've been reading all the great info on this site and others for months. Anyway, found a 2000 Winnebago adventurer 34v on the rv lot I bought my last trailer from. Fair to deal with and honest I don't mind buying from them again.

I know tires, condition and layout are things to watch for. We have 3 boys, 9, 6 and 4 and we have quads and a RZR. So, my questions are:

We like the layout. We can use it for at least 5-7 years. Is the genset propane? We boondock so effeciency is important! Also I am familiar with the cummins and know about the "53" block. Given this is ok, can I assume a simple programmer and other simple mods will get me 350 horses with damaging the trans or engine pulling 5k or so?

Any other issues to watch for in this coach? I think I canfet it for 22k or so.

Thoughts?

My 2005 38ft Adventurer was an excellent gas motorhome with an 8.1 Workhorse engine. Again, excellent well built motorhome. Things to watch for: Norcold 1200 frig, was the recall taken care of, and does the frig work properly.

It might be possible it's a 1999 Winnebago on a 2000 Winnebago frame, which could be registered as a 2000? Winnebago did have a diesel engine in there 1999 Adventurer 34V. Winnebago as of 2014-15 started putting diesel motors back in the Adventurer Line!

Where did you get the information about Winnebago putting diesels back in the Adventurer line? I went to the Winnebago website that was just updated yesterday. There's no mention of a diesel Adventurer when you select "diesel" powered coaches.

Class A diesel motorhomes

Also there's no mention of a diesel engine option when accessing the Adventurer line of coaches. The only chassis listed is the Ford F53 gas chassis.

All the Adventurers from 2000 to 2013 are Winnebagos top of the line gas coaches. There was a year or two that Winnebago had a gas pusher but they didn't sell so they were discontinued I think it was 2009. I own a 04 Adventurer (gas) for ten years now and have been extremely happy with it. Very few troubles with it. It's very well insulated and the furnace, stove and fridge run off of electricity and propane. The Workhorse Chassis has a very nice engine Chevy Vortec 8.1, 496 cubic inches with a Allison transmission. Plenty of power for mountains and towing. I was going to trade it in on a DP after 7 years but I'm afraid too since I've had such a good coach. Good Luck to you! Rooster

Winnebago sold plenty of Gas pushers, they were discontinued because Chevy discontinued the 8.1 Vortex engine which eventually put Workhorse custom motorhome chassis out of business.

There are a number of Winnebago gas pushers for sale, some of them are Destinations, and there are a couple of Adventurer limiteds available as well. When we purchased our coach in 08 we were also looking at an Adventurer gas pusher, very nice coach.

I checked Winnebago's web site and they don't make them now and haven't for years. And, I've still never seen on except in that video.

I've never seen a diesel Adventurer. I stand corrected now that I've seen Bret Wolfe's video. I think that one would be a great unit to start out with.

We bought a 99 Adventurer back in November, & just finished our first trip in it (1,125mi) with no issues other than replacing all the batteries. Found out they were all over 6 years old. Go for it!

Thank you sir.

I will go check out the coach and see if this will fit/work for us. It is not the perfect coach in some ways however for the price I can't be too picky. This is a 5-7 year plan with this one so hopefully it works for that time frame.

Well according to the link above it lists the trans as the older mt463 and from what I'm reading you are correct and that engine is pushing the limit alreading....

So it seems it will be pretty slow and since we live in western Oregon lots of hills and mountains to pull..
