Mich F--I bought a 1994 Callista Cove 28 foot by Carriage. Ford 460 with the E350 chassis. Original owner, garaged, maintained, and used--86,000 miles. Looks just like new inside and out. Has all manuals and maintenance records. Michelin tires in 2010.

Two issues--have a whistle, seems to be around the top right corner of the main entrance door. Shocks have never been replace. I'm looking at Koni and Bilstein. Koni FSD not available for this chassis. Not withstanding the 18 year old shocks and the 86,000 miles it drives great. Picked it up in Kansas Tuesday and drove it back to Panhandle of Florida arriving last night. Now considering no driving/handling issues, (this is my 8th MH), what shocks do I go for. Got to believe the originals should be replaced. We won't be full time camping so won't be loaded very heavy. Will haul family/grandsons with their families now and than but will motel it some of the time, and will probably tow a vehicle on a Dolly now and than. Don't really like a firm ride. I have review the forum for articles on shocks and it seems to be split between the Bilsteins and the Konis. Suggestions welcomed.

Congrats on your purchase. From what I've read the Callista Cove is a high quality, well built unit. That whistling in the door area could be just a matter of replacing the seal around the door. I have no experience with replacing shocks. I sold my first Class C at around 50,000 miles with the original shocks, which had shown no signs of needing replacement. My Coachmen MH has a little over 50,00 miles and doesn't seem to need shocks. If your ride is fine I don't know if you should even bother changing the shocks. Best of luck with the new ride.

There are sellers that will sell you 1 cover if that is what you need.

First the whistle. So annoying I stopped at a Wally World on the way home the first day and bought some weather strip material. Put that on but that didn't help. Only did the top half of the door and on the frame of the door way where the screen door would come in against it. Next stop I took it off and put it on the door itself, that didn't help. Emailed the seller after I got home and he said it did that from the day it was new. The dealer tried to fix it but failed, so they lived with it. I note the rain deflector over the door has been shaved down on the corners. The PO thought it might be the awning. I'll do some more cut and pasting with masking tape on the out side to see if I can isolate the source, than attack it.

Shocks--I'm going to go ahead and replace them. Had some vibration--in fact lost a hub cap first day, at 65mph and above. Owner said he lost a hub cap or two but I got the impression he never drove it over about 60, in his later years, since he towed a small car. Could be a combination of weak shocks and tire out of balance- the combination of the two would let it shake some. Not sure if I need to spend big bucks for shocks since it already drive great. While I have the wheels off for balance will probably go with some brand of shock. Have at least 5000 miles of travel planned in the next 10 months. The hub caps are camping world specials but I like the simulators--not sure if I will part with the dollar for them. Thanks for the advice.

Are the wheel simulators easy to install? Looks like two lug nuts hold each one in place. Looks like a special tool may also be needed?

Another thought... do they produce any rattles or noise when travelling?
