Fourwinds 29G

Hello Class C folks!

I am comfortable with my TT lifestyle, and my question is for a co-worker. He and his wife are going to look at a Fourwinds 29G this weekend. He knows I camp, and has asked me about that unit. I really don't know allot about Cs. The unit is the E450, double slides and looks good.

What I do remember reading here is allot of decussion on wheel base, this unit sits on a 212" wheelbase. Is 212" WB good for a 30 foot class C ? No discussion with him about towing, but they do have a Jeep Wrangler.

I answered what I could for them.....again, just seems the wheelbase issue has come up numerous times?

......and I have directed them to this site.

Thanks for any info !

That WB isn't all that bad in its own right, BUT...

Adjust tire pressures then take a test drive that includes a visit to a truck scale. I'd suggest 60-front, 75-rear which is what we run on our 31-ft that weighs 13500 loaded for camping. The door sticker may specify more than that on the assumption that the chassis will be loaded to max capacity of 14500. Whatever you do, don't test it with the 80-psi-front stamped on the sidewalls. It'll drive absolutely squirrely.

Some of the newer 31-ft Class C's have wheel base around 220" and that helps handling/tracking AND weight distribution. My concern with a shorter WB is that it may work out that not enough weight is shifted to the front axle, running the rear axle at or even above its capacity. Take a look at that.
