Furnace r&r

It's winter& once again my old duo- therms are doa.i am tired of screwing with these things.coach is a 90 executive.furnace for rear has plenty of room around it front furnace is located under fridge/not so much room.certainly some one here has replaced these horrible units with something better? Like I said I want these things gone.no repair ect. They are both ducted through the bottom. What would be a good replacement? Thanks joe.
  • Thanks tor the replys guys. New atwoods are on order.i do all my own work on my old coach&can usually fix any thing. But with these things the health and safety factor over ruled saving $. This should be a fun install /when I get this project done the ol girl will have all new appliances. Joe.

23 years of use is a good track record, things wear out.

Yes 23 years they owe you nothing.
  • Here is a quote from an earlier post concerning problems with Duo Therm Furnace.....

Duotherm produced the 9000 series and took it OFF the market after a few years, because of intermittent staying lit. It was due to the CASE PRESSURE. A symptom was as you described, Works on the bench AND if you remove or slightly remove the case cover when installed, it lights and stays lit. IF YOU HAVE THIS MODEL, A REPUTABLE SERVICE COMPANY WILL NOT ATTEMPT REPAIR. It would be a waste of time and just cost the customer money. They CANNOT be repaired and be guaranteed to work. There are very few parts and Dometic has not supplied parts for over 20 years. The only sure fix is to replace with a compatible model that will fit in the space. Dometic used to send out NEW units under warranty and they sometimes failed to stay lit. Doug

    So it's time to replace.
Biggest question is which furnace..Atwood or Suburban.
You will need to measure available space.........clearances, obstructions, access etc.

    Here is a install manual.....pg. 2 & 3 give dimensions.....LINK

Might want to PM 'dougrainer' and ask him which Brand/Model would be easiest to retrofit.
    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the input guys.rear sounds like a jet being brought up to full power for takeoff when you turn it on.front has been replaced.origional one had a hole rusted through the burner chamber. These things have not been made in a long time.they are the 900 series.parts are next to impossible to find I believe this is the series that put them out of the furnace business. I am thinking about the Atwood it would be nice to be able to access them from the outside& I had them in a fifth wheel I had. The biggest challenge will be connecting them to the existing duct work.like I said before if anyone here has done this conversion before please chime in.

Have never worked on a Duo-Therm but what are they doing wrong.... Most RV furnaces are very similar.

The two models I know best are Atwood (Which I have) and Surburan (Which in some cases uses the same parts). both work alike.

But describe the problem and perhaps there is a 3rd party repair that is superior to the OEM.. Was in my case.
