Check the Positive from battery to genny, Then check the gennies connection to ground. The Onan's +/- connection studs are on the backside of the generator, driver's side.
Don't know if this is your issue, but a buddy with a Monaco coach had big generator start issues and found that the length and size of the wiring from the battery bank to the generator did not meet Onan specifications.
He installed a dedicated battery close to the genny....problem solved.
