- Sam_SpadeExplorerOnans will not run if the oil level is low.
That includes APPEARING to be low because the trailer is WAY off level. - clayhublerExplorerUpdate,
I pulled the starter motor and tested it. Bad. Got a new one and installed. Now it cranks and fires, but dies immediately. I thought it may take a while to pull the propane in, since it sat for a while, but I can smell it in the exhaust now, so I feel like it is getting fuel. - wa8yxmExplorer III

The resting voltage is 13 and the attempting to crank voltage is 12.8. THe main battery + cable draws almost 5 amps when trying to start, but the cable from solenoid to starter isn't drawing anything, so I'm guessing that the soleniod is drawing those amps, and the starter is doing nothing.
AH, Diagnostic post.. Have seen this in fact though it was not a generator.. Saved some folks big time when I started their vacuum motor though (Truck mounted carpet cleaner system)
Bad solenoid.. Any auto parts store can supply, standard part. if they need a make give them a 1980 ford anything. it will work though may mount different. - tropical36Explorer

Clicks but wont turn over. Batteries are fully charged. It's an Onan 6300 LP Genset, Emerald Plus.
Jumper across the solenoid main terminals for checking the starter. You can first try putting 12v directly on the solenoid control terminal to see what happens. Starter OK, replace said solenoid. - Jerrybo66ExplorerDon't know about your genny but sometimes my 4000 "sticks". I find the flywheel, give it a turn, and it fires up.. IMO... Good luck..
- clayhublerExplorerTried tapping, nope.
- IvylogExplorer IIITry tapping on the starter with a hammer.

I'm thinking starter is bad?
If that is indeed true, then either you have lost the chassis ground at the starter OR the starter has gone bad.
If the brushes on the starter are bad, sometimes a couple of firm taps on the starter motor case will free them up enough to start once or twice. - clayhublerExplorerWolfe10

"Try to start the generator while holding your dash "BOOST" switch so that you are using both your house and chassis batteries. If this works than you have a problem with one set of batteries. Either they are bad or the connections are bad."
Still same thing.
So I have now disconnected and cleaned all connections, the battery cables and the wires from the solenoid to starter. All are clean, and all show 12.8 volts, so solenoid is working, voltage is getting to the starter, but starter isn't doing anything.
