Generator won't Start

It would be unusual for the generator to have a battery separate from the house (or engine).

Definitely sounds like the solenoid is engaging the starter but not enough juice to start.

Are your house batteries okay?

The 2 batteries in the rear are called the Chassis. The other 4 (Qty 4 of 6 volt) coach / house.
It is common for the generator to be connected to the house batteries.

1) look for the AUX start switch, this connects the chassis to house.
2) get a volt meter and measure the battery voltage across the house.

Black on a good common ground (frame, rail). The measure to the (+) side of the battery.
I suspect your coach has a Inverter/Charger installed. When connected to shore power or generator on. The Charger is operating.
Also since this is a new coach, the dealer should have done a walk thru. Also a stack of documents should be on board.
Make sure you read thru them all. Locate the items they are talking about.

You must have a warranty for this? If so, bring it back to them and have them fix it. If possible, watch them.

Also, did you not go thru a walk thru of the coach before you picked it up? Since this is a new MH you must have manuals that WILL explain the functions and location of all components within the coach. You should read this.

It sounds like your house batteries are discharged. If possible, start your coach and let it run for a few minutes then try to start the generator. Or plug in shore power for a while and charge your batteries.

Start the coach then try and start the generator...

I have a diesel gen. and when you hit the switch it does the same, tick just hold it after about a half minute then it will start. Like when you crank the main engine it wont crank until the light gose out

The ticking sound is normal, at least for my coach. Remember, for diesel engines to start, their "glo plugs" or "piston sleeves" must be heated first, and this takes several seconds before they roar to life. Diesel engines have a totally different ignition system compared to gas engines.

That's why when you turn on your ignition key, at least on my rig, I have to wait to start the engine until a light on the dash goes off. Then, the piston sleeves are heated and ready to go. Same thing for your generator.

Not aware of any heater for "piston sleeves".

Most small diesels have GLOW PLUGS that heat the combustion or pre-combustion chamber while most larger diesels have INTAKE MANIFOLD HEATERS.

Neither make a clicking sound. The clicking sound is the electric fuel pump found on many diesels.

I have tried everything suggested.
The batteries are good
Held down the start switch (just keeps on clicking)
I am beginning to think that it might be the fuel pump as someone suggested. I have made an appointment to take it in.

Try two things:

1. Start the coach engine, then try to start the genset while the engine is running.

2. Hold the battery boost switch...should be on the dash near the genset start, and try to start the generator.

If all else fails, be sure to come back and post what was wrong with the coach so someone else can learn from your experience.....Dennis
