gulfstream super c 6341yellowstone 8.1gas 19kmiles

Planning on pulling 8000lb trailer. Any advice on this unit would be appreciated. On inspection I noticed right rear down 1 1/2" when on level ground. It has bunkbeds and slide on r/rear. Mabye spring weak? Possibly fix with airbags / spring swap? Nothing looks abnormal under. Also on r/s slide, screws on bottom trim/outside (going in from underneath) broken off. Looks like rubber seal outside not correct along coach wall.Anything else I should look for? Priced at 45k. Mainly going to use to pull race trailer in midwest mabye couple trips out west no trailer. Would like to have Diesel but this thing very clean kept indoors. Been driving underpowered non slide class a. Going to miss the open road feel but like the interior on these. Looking at 05 350hp alfa also very clean but seems to big. $38k. hard to believe super c more. Damn Alfa looks nice. Anyone know mpg 0n alfa? guessing super c 7mpg. Thanks for help.
  • Before we went fulltime I towed a 7500 lb. enclosed trailer in Colorado. I added Super Springs to help with the sag. I wished I had weighed it before I bought new tires. I put the same size and load rating that it came with. I had filled the water tank for a weekend of racing then took it to the Cat scales with the trailer. She was 28,300 lb. Yikes.

We have lived in ours for 3 years and will be on the road 3 years come September.

I do drive it differently at altitude. It pulled hills easier starting at 65 mph. At lower altitudes 60 mph is ok. I'm not in a hurry anymore.

What's the powertrain in the Alfa? Say it's a CAT C7 (max RV HP was 360) with Allison World 2000 or 3000 series transmission. You should be able to post on Class A and get some good reports. Hard to describe, but a gasser accelerates and a diesel gains momentum.
  • Thanks for input it's an 2007 guy let me tow 11000lb trailer on hills and other than 4 1/2 " squat in rear I was ok with power, think bags will fix that. Really like that alfa for price but we have race track 1hr from home we go to for day most weekends. Just thought g/s would be smaller and be little cheaper to run around, and maybe trip out west easier. Will Alfa have similar fuel mileage and cost to operate? Tough decision. 05 Alfa nada 63k low 07 super c. 61k low. Price. Alfa 35k. Super c 45k. Wonder which will hold value better in 4 years? Input please. Thanks again
  • Welcome to RV.NET.
Which year 6341 are you looking at?
My 2004 6340 was very close to rear axle load with full fresh water tank. That was without any trailer attached. I have the 19.5K chassis. Tires were the limiting factor. Later models of the 6340/1 had 245 tires instead of the 225 tires.
I have towed 7,000 with no problems even with the 225 tires.
The ALFA is a orphaned manufacture. There were lots of problems with delamination of side walls. They also had problems with their electronics. If the model you are looking at has the above items fixed. It may be a better choice than the GS.
Many dealers tend to over price the Kodiak chassis motorhome. Use NADANADA low retail as good starting price. Even that may to too high.
  • A friend of mine had one and used it for the same purpose with a similar weight trailer. It literally fell apart as he drove. It also got poor mileage and had little power on hills. It was a happy day when he got rid of it.
    Very bad choice IMHO.
