Hankook AH11 tires...

It's that time, i'm heading south in a few weeks and want to replace my front tires. I was looking at a lot of brands and found these Hankooks that get good reviews and the price is great.
Am I looking for disappointment if I buy these? I have Goodyear's now and I think they suck as far as ride. Who else has bought these?

Google GOODYEAR FLORIDA LAWSUIT, read it and then ask yourself if you EVER want to spend a dime with Goodyear!

I am switching all of my Michelin's out. Too much problem with cracking.

I am going to the Hankook AH12 (275/70R/22.5). Out the door price in CA is $2508.96. Beats the heck out of Mich. And, it is highly rated. Beats the Firestone FS560 by $100.00

Quote for 6 new Hankook AH11 out the door price, $2621 ($436 each) or can go the Goodyear or Micheline route for about another $800. Depressing, but inevitable.

That's about the same price I paid for my Hankooks at Big-O tires, instead of balancing my tires they put Equal in all tires, they ride so smooth..

The trouble with Hankooks AH 12 is the cost. Darn near as much as Michelins of the same size.

Really I put 6 on $2500 OTD Michelins would have been 12-1500 more.

I did not know until now that Hankook is a South Korean company:

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — State officials confirmed Monday that South Korean Hankook Tire Co. will indeed build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Clarksville, creating nearly 2,000 direct jobs.

The announcement by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and other officials put to rest growing speculation that Hankook was coming to town. The company is expected to break ground on the new plant by the end of 2014 and begin tire production by 2016.

Hankook will invest over $800 million for the new state-of-the-art plant, its first in the United States. The new plant will provide additional capacity for Hankook's growing business in the U.S. market and create approximately 1,800 full-time jobs for the region.

In answer to your question, here's my post from September

Had 4 Hankook 245/70R19.5 A11 installed at Bruneel Tire yesterday.

Date codes on all were in Feb 2013. Tires looked good, no evidence of being stored outdoors.

14PR G rated.

Several surprises:

Made in China. If I had known that, I'd have chosen another tire. I knew that Hankook has a number of factories in different countries but I thought it was reported that this size was made in a democratic country South Korea). However I didn't specify that to Bruneel, and they ordered the tires in so I felt it only right to honor my order.

When I asked about warranty, they said they had none on these tires. Upon further discussion, they said we got only the Hankook factory warranty stated on the Hankook site. I read that warranty and was OK with it.

I tried to sell the take-off's on Craigs List for $50 each but got no interest so I was going to give them to a friend. However, when I told Bruneel that a friend would pick them up, they said they figured $20/tire into my price to keep them for retreading and resale. This may be worth bringing up when negotiating price if planning to keep/sell the take-offs.

Lastly, they wrote $1350 plus tax on the work order. I reminded that they quoted $1350 "out the door" and they honored that quote.

Summary: Would recommend Bruneel, good price, good service, did what they said on-time. Properly torqued lug nuts - not over or under.

I read they have a plant in China, what size where they?

Just think in 2016 you might be able to purchase some made in the USA at a new plant they are building in Tennessee. Hankook US Tire Plant Article Clicky

Had hankooks on the old bus rear tires. handling was a lot better then the GY they replaced. I did not have them on the fronts through, so I cannot offer an oponion on that ride. Due to circumstances I had to replace the front tires on the road when a bubble in the sidwall developed, because of that I ended up with Continental which I thought where fine for the steer.

Many tend to think that Hankook is just another Chinese tire. First they are not a Chinese tire. Hankook is a first line foreign made tire. They just built a multi million dollar R & D lab in Akron,Ohio. Hankook are OEM on Navistar and I think Freightliner is beginning to use them. They will be more expensive than a Happy Rooster Chinese POJ ! We have a set on our Bounder and when the Dynasty needs tires they will be Hankooks. I wish they made more sizes.
