Help! Stuck in Arkansas

Our M/H is a 2000 Fleetwood Pace Arrow Vision 36B. As we were traveling, the electricity would go off. We stopped at a repair center in Conway, AR. and they need to replace the Power Tek model PDC 1009 automatic transfer switch and energy management system which is no longer in production and they don't know how to procure one. Help! Anyone have any idea where we can order this?
  • Hello everyone who responded to my distress signal. We needed each of your responses but could not get back to anyone since we had no wifi and only limited phone service. I told the repairman to call Fleetwood and ask them if they could send us a replacement or recommend one. Fleetwood said they had only one left in the entire U.S.A. and sent it to us. It was six days of misery as the weather was hot as H#$^. We had one extension cord for all our electrical needs and dirty well water. Now we know what dry camping means. D.E., thank you for responding with a private message, it was appreciated. I would very much like to have those schematics. I took pictures of the switch and how it was wired for any future problems it could pose. We don't ever want to be in that situation again. Thanks again everyone, we are back on the road again.
  • homerbw, I have given you all the answers you need with specific places to call and another member of this forum that had the same problem. Do an advanced search for your name and you will find two posts with the same title from today. One is time stamped from 06:14 am today 6-26-14 and the second is time stamped at 12:02 pm.

    1. I am assuming that the electricity issue is the house AC power while driving, not the chassis system or the 12v house system.

    2. If the AC power from your generator goes off while traveling, it would seem that there is a loose wire or contact point.

    3. If that issue is in your transfer switch and is affecting the 110v system, the problem might be resolved by cleaning and tightening the generator specific wire contacts inside the transfer switch. (Do this with no shore power and no genset power.)

That should get you home where more in depth work could be done, if even necessary.

If power from the genset into the coach is not being interrupted, then you do not need the transfer switch repaired/replaced.

I cannot tell from your description if the above is even your problem.

Finding a TRANSFER SWITCH is one thing but finding one that will fit in the same spot as your original transfer switch may be the problem area.

You might not want to rule out to having one installed outside the WFCO Power Distribution Panel and run wires from the external transfer switch box location to where they need to go. All it needs is to be installed in an approved electrical box with removal lid.

Probably not much fun in CONWAY AR but this is not all that far from JACKSONVILLE-NORTH LITTLE ROCK where you might find some RV places. LRAFB is located at Jacksonville which is probably home for many RV units.

The transfer switch itself is nothing more than a 30A or 50A multi-pole electrical 2-position 120VAC contactor. Any Electrical supply place would have something that would work. Folks wire-in Generators to their household all the time.

A good Electrical Repair Shop should be able to get you back on the road with something...

Also don't rule out MARINE BOAT places. BLUE SEA sells similar transfer switches... Arkansas is known for its many lakes for fishing. Lots of Lakes 30 minutes from each each means lots of boats similar equipped like your motorhome..

I know we are not much help for you - sorry you are in a stranded mode.

  • Any Camping World or other RV supply house should have one in stock for either a 30 amp or 50 amp service.
  • I need help finding the transfer switch, where can it be ordered?
  • The transfer switch is pretty common and they should be able to find one, from another manufacturer, easily.
The energy management system is OPTIONAL and your coach will operate just fine without one. To get you on the road ASAP, just change out the transfer switch.
