How to determine if roof can hold a/c unit

I have a 2001 Itasca Suncruiser with basement air, but I would like to add a rooftop a/c unit (Dometic Brisk II HE) in the center fan vent hole (removing the vent fan). I have figured out electrically how I am going to do this, but how do I know that the rooftop is acceptable to mount the unit? I walk around up there and my roof appears to be sturdy in the area, but is there something special that I should be aware of for the rooftop unit up there??

I don't recall ever seeing any additional bracing for the big trailer ceiling for roof mounted air conditioners.

However in my POPUP trailer they added a ceiling brace on the inside on both sides of the roof mounted air conditioner... This might be something you may want to contact the trailer company and give them the VIN number...

  • You weigh more than a roof a/c. If the roof holds you, it will hold a 90 pound a/c unit.
  • If you have a vent up where you are going to put the AC I bet your good. My brother in-law added one to his Winnebago. Because his basement air did not keep them cool.
His pretty much sits right over where the vent was.

A 14X14 vent hole is all you need... this is the standard size for roof ACs.
  • Jump up and down on it. If it doesn't cave it will hold it, if it doe's, you have your hole.

But when it is installed, it will need to hold the OP AND the 90 pound A/C unit.
