- mockturtleExplorer III use a dehumidifier when mine is stored for the winter.
- donn0128Explorer IIDo you mean humidifier or DEhumidifier?
We have used one for several years over the winter. This winter since we are full timing I bought two small whisper quiet dehumifier's and have run them 24/7 They take very little energy, and do suck a good quantity of water each day. As long as I have electricity I will run them. - B_s_BunchExplorerAny particular brand/size better than another? Where is good place to purchase? Thanks Larry
- mockturtleExplorer IIMine is a Frigidaire 50 pt. model. Works great. Don't waste your money on anything smaller.
- sowegoExplorerIn our arid region where percentages drop below 20% in the winter and with the furnace running a lot...you bet we had to run a small cool mist humidifier 24/7.
We used a humidistat to monitor our numbers and in the most extreme conditions with furnace running a lot it was difficult to hold at 25%.
In some regions of the country it isn't necessary but believe me out west...it is vital!
The downside is the probability of freezing condensation on glass, window frames, walls and even inside cabinets, which will occur even at less than 20% so folks might as well be comfortable. We kept one door to each cabinet open all the time to equalize temp and humidity. Also, be sure cabinets aren't packed full and all items are pulled away from the wall. We had books and clothing get frozen to the wall!
Choose a size that fits your space. We had ours sitting on the kitchen counter so didn't want a big unit. It held enough water to get through the night. At home we find the 1 gallon model is just about right. Since they need to be cleaned out often the larger they are the more work to keep clean and more to find storage for off-season. It's no bother to refill ours 2 to 3 times per day. - camperpaulExplorerMy 'sticks and bricks' house had hot water radiator heat and I use oil filled electric radiators in my TT.
I built a bunch of these Homebrew Humidifiers using baling wire and 16 oz. beer cans with the tops removed.
When hung behind the radiators, they are hard to see unless you know they are there but they work rather well. - Dennis_M_MExplorerHere in Tucson we need a humidifier! Humidity the other day was 6% and we sleep with windows and ceiling vent open in the bedroom.
We use an Aero-Swiss travel humidifier which works great. Only drawback is the glowing blue light.
Have never needed a dehumidifier anywhere, but we open windows whenever we can and always sleep with an open window no matter how cold it is, but that's just us. - DSDP_DonExplorerWe started using one about a year ago when we found trips to southwest locations were really drying us out. We bought a medium size Vicks brand and run it on a countertop across from the foot of our bed. It goes though about a gallon a night on high, yet nothing is wet or damp.
- LobstahExplorerWinter camping in Mass we run a humidifier when we're in the coach. Running the furnace makes it incredibly dry in cold temps.
We buy the Vicks humidifiers at CVS...$17. Works great for us...we set it on the counter in our bedroom and it runs 24/7 while we're there.
