Granted, I'm currently in France. It's no wonder RVing isn't as popular here as it is in the United States.

57.32 Euros for 43.46 Liters. Doesn't sound as bad if you think of it in liters.

Must have gone up. I paid $0.13/gal when I was there. 1970 with campsa coupons. My RV as a 1962 VW bug with a tent tied on top.

It's difficult to convey how awful gypsy camps in Europe are. I tried finding a photo of one but could only find this:




The ones I've seen in France look like trash dumps inhabited by strange folks speaking odd languages in very old and abused trailers. I couldn't imagine living like a true gypsy.

In the US, the term gypsy is a somewhat romanticized way of describing a free spirit.

I think you're dividing by the wrong number. Go to Conversion site and read the second half of the block that talks about conversion rate. In their example one US dollar bought you .98 Canadian. Today one US dollar gets you 1.09 Canadian so 1.09 goes in the second yellow box.

In the end of June we were in the little town at the base of the Schilthorne on the lauterbrunnen valley. There are a couple of campgrounds there maybe 50 sites each. They were both mostly full. The majority were travel trailers in the 22 to 24 foot range and the rest motorhomes all around 22 to 25 feet. Mostly there for the biking and hiking. Young family's. etc. it would be a place we would return to if we go back and rent a motorhome. We took pictures of a lot if the campgrounds but Angela is still sorting through them. I'll put them online when she's done.

After spending 4 years in Lucern, Switzerland I don't remember ever seeing a RV there----maybe I wasn't paying attention. We had a Mercedes conversion van and made a few trips to Italy and Germany----Still don't remember seeing any what I would call a RV----guess thats been over 10 years ago maybe things have changed.

I'm about two hours south of Paris in a city named Avalon. We went straight down the A6 and I didn't see many RVs at all and certainly none that we would classify as your typical Class A in the United States.

I thought about renting an RV but opted instead to use my car because 1) we already keep a car here and 2) We are visiting family and friends and staying at their homes.

I very much would like to rent an RV on my next visit simply to experience camping in a European country. I'd love to compare the differences.

We spent the last 9 weeks in Europe. We were amazed at the amount of RV traffic in Germany, Belgium and France. It seemed like every 5th or 6th vehicle on the Autobahn was an RV. Many of the campgrounds we saw along the rivers were packed as well. There were less in Italy and Spain but once you got to the coast there were lots again.

Most RVs over there are the 'Sprinter' type so they're a little more efficient than a huge Class A. Last time I was in the UK, many of the roads and towns wouldn't be able to accommodate a Class A but I saw many sprinters. Additionally, outside of sporting and social events, if you drive a RV you are considered a 'gypsy' and looked down upon.

My formula says (Canadian price per liter) times (3.785) divided (by the US Canadian exchange rate) equals (US price per gallon). I used conversion rate of $1.09US per #1.00C.

Nah. I get around 5.90 plus or minus a couple cents. Gotta love the north for pricey fuel. I was posted in goose bay Labrador a couple decades back. Even pricey back then although I don't remember the exact number.
