Installing a bike carrier

One option is to get something like this..This is NOT the exact one I was looking for.

Bolt on Receiver

The one I was looking for is designed to bolt on to a square rail/bumper using a pair of "D" bolts (like u-Bolts only flat bottomned) This one would work however

We have the Roadmaster dual hitch. It worked fine. The problem for us was that since we got the Jeep, we could not use a drop hitch. It needed to be straight.

I'm not sure you can't get one with a heavier rating (Dual hitch adapter) there is also another solution that might work (it basically bolts to your cross bar)

I have seen, in the past, a bicycle carrier that was designed to slip over and attach to the 2" Square "Tong" of the Blue Ox (or other) tow bar.. This may be your best solution if you can find 9it.

NOTE: Blue Ox makes a device that goes by assorted names. "Hitch Immobilizer" or "Anti Rattle Clip" if you add a bicycle carrier USE ONE That towed will toss the bicycle around a bunch without it.

This is the one I have. I never remove it because it also gives me the 4" drop I need for the Toad. I was surprised that the OP didn't see this sooner.

Check with Camping World - that is where we bought our second cover.
It had clear sections in it, but it sure would not work well for our 2 bikes. After a lot of struggling with it, it went back. Friends of ours also found the same thing and since their bikes were a slightly different size than ours, they were certain it would work for them - it did not.

Above poster recommended a roof mounted rack. When we were younger that is what we used. Now, being a little older and also having a high SUV it was a struggle for us to lift the bikes that high up. For years we used to carry a tandem on the roof and so we do have experience with roof mounted racks. Unfortunately, as we age, changes are necessary.

Ideally, if I could find a (2) bike carrier cover that is clear in the center and allows view of the rear license plate solves all my problems and preferred. If anyone knows of one, please let me know... It would be most appreated!

Problem with the dual receiver approach you're talking about for carrying bikes, is if you look closely at the documentation that comes with most hitch-mounted bike racks, most are NOT supported, recommended to be used on the back of an RV like that. I seem to recall only finding one or or two that allow that.

That, and the other issue you may run into, is that when the bikes are on there, you may not be able to unhitch and fold up the tow bar. Bikes may get in the way. Not sure if that'd be an issue for you, but it was for us and was main reason we chose against that approach. We frequently like to unhitch the towed vehicle and fold up the tow bar before we get to our campsite. That would be really difficult, if you had to remove all the bikes then, too.

Also, as already said, you will probably find that there are times you'd like to carry, bring the bikes on your towed vehicle. Sometimes you will want to bring the bikes places you won't want to take the Motorhome.

I highly, highly recommend you look into a roof rack, for your towed vehicle. Sooo much better for the bikes, and is very quick and easy to get the bikes up there and to get them back down. Keeps the bikes completely out of the way, too.

We went the route of a hitch-mounted bike rack on the rear of the towed vehicle several years ago. Eventually, just got to where we hated that approach, and recently (several months ago) ditched the hitch mounted rack, bit the bullet and got a roof rack. Soooo much better, and really, really wish I would have gone this route from the get-go. Yes, roof racks are not cheap, but well worth it, and you can get a lot of the parts for them via Craigs List, and save a bunch of $$ that way.

You could always get a straight drawbar or drop drawbar if needed and have someone weld a 2" receiver box tube to the top of it for inserting the bike rack.

I believe the reason hitch extensions are de-rated is because of the lateral force (side to side) that gets applied to the extension during use.
One way to alleviate the lateral force is to attach chains, etc. from the ball end back to the hitch at an angle to create a triangle. Research hitch extensions used for slide in campers and you will see what I mean.
You can have anything built by a good welder/ fabricator.

I made an offset extension for both my bike rack and hitch haul to clear my spare tire on my jeep.

Anything is possible.
