Just received my premium notice for renewal. The company I am currently with has raised the premium 20% with no accidents or moving violations on my part. I asked my agent to do some shopping and see if they can come up with a better premium with equal coverage. They came back to me with a quote from Allied Insurance, a subsidary of Nationwide Insurance based out of Des Moines IA. They are an A+ rated company by AMBest. My question is, does anyone have any claims experience with Alled Insurance? The premium may be better, but is their claims/customer service any good? Any knowledge from those who have had an experience with Allied Insurance would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hawkeye ---- Look in your phone directory or internet for the Insurance Commissioner for your state. I used to work for the one in my state. Our Commissioner kept track of complaints against companies AND against agents........ That's a good place to start. :) :) Check out your agent, too.

Also have your agent check with National Interstate Insurance. We are full timers and they insure both the RV and the toad. Not sure how rates compare. Haven't shopped in awhile but they were cheaper than the other carrier we had when we switched a few years ago. I've found that some insurance companies offer an "introductory" rate to get you to change and then increase the rates so you don't really save in the long run.

I have used allied for the last two years and I have no complaints. I have had a windshield and an awning claim and both were handled to my satisfaction.

I am with Nationwide/Allied and Just filed a complaint.. HOWEVER, my case is a bit odd.The complaint: Under the law both here in Michigan where I officially live and where the contract (policy) is signed and based, And in South Carolina where stuff happened.IF you buy a new or used car, or RENT a car, and you have an existing automobile which is insured, said insurance extends (For a period of days) to the new purchase/rental. That is the standard of practice across the industry and the law from what I am told.NATIONWIDE refused to cover the Jeep my wife crashed 2 business days after we bought it. They claim a Class A motor home is NOT an automobile.So, be aware of that.IF you have a 2nd vehicle (Towed) you won't have a problem.If you do go with Nationwide, I've been very happy with them save for this incident.. And feel free to pass this post to your agent.

Guess I'll eat crow. After getting a number of quotes from other companies, I ended up renewing with Nationwide. Still not happy about the rate increase but it does look like the State of Florida is the bad guy. There was even an article in the local newspaper about large rate increases in the last 3 or 4 years.

Check with Auto Owners Insurance. They write policies in Florida and they also will write agreed value policies for RV's. If you have a good driving record and a good credit rating, I haven't found any company that is less expensive. They also write one year policies, instead of the six month policies that some write.

I've been a big supporter of Nationwide insurance because of their customer service and their rates. I now take it all back. For the last two years I've had big rate increases without tickets or claims. Just got my bill for the coming year and it's 20% more, just like last year. Last year and this year I've been told it's because of state-wide rate increases (Florida). So, I take back any nice things I've said about them and It's time for me to check rates from other companies.

I agree with the post by wtfjr about AARP Hartford. We have been with them for several years now and they have the lowest rates for us, always. They also have free roadside assistance as part of the RV coverage which enabled us to save even more by cancelling our Good Sam Roadside Assistance. (Sorry, Good Sam) They have handled both claims that we have had very promptly and efficiently. As he said, if you're old enough to qualify for AARP you can't go wrong with them.

Everything with the various state DMVs has gotten computerized. Usually the insurance companies did not get info inputted to the state's DMV computers in proper time and order. Have had it happen to me and wife worked at the DMV. My local agent had to straighten it out for me, which got the DMV to rescind the fine and off off my back.

I had insurance through an independent agent had all sorts of problems but no claims switched to USAA, rates were less and better coverage, USAA then started using progressive for MH coverage and during the first year had vandalism damage which was covered without question and for year 2 of coverage our premium went down. We are covered for accidents, all weather phenomena including floods, any and all damages including a toad or trailer, trip interruption, and medical in US and Mexico all for less than $400 a year. Not to mention Roadside asst. and towing. We are very pleased with their service.

We have our personal autos & the RV insured thru AARP with The Hartford & each year we shop our three vehicle policy & the AARP plan comes back with the lowest premium.
And, they also include many bennys like covered towing of the RV, living expenses while the RV is being repaired etc.
Look into it, if you are old enough ?

I highly recommend "Foremost Insurance Co." been insured with them since 1995, geat company with no hassel claim service.
