Is A New 2018 Still New?

I would not hesitate to buy a new 2018 unit, but I would use the tire age as a price negotiating tool. The generally recommended RV tire replacement age range is 5-7 years, so it's not a major issue on 2018, but if they'll drop the price or install new (check the date codes) tires, so much the better.

Same with the batteries.

Tires, batteries, oil and filter change and roof inspection/maintenance.

Depends....there was a lot of flooding in 2017-18. Were any of these from Texas or a southern state??? Lots of reasons why these haven't sold. Do your research. At the very least, you've lost about 30% use of the tires and almost 40% of the battery life and that's only if they were maintained. If the batteries went completely dead, they may need to be replaced. All negotiable items but be vigilant on the history of the rig you've decided to offer on.....Dennis

It's new until you drive it off the lot. Then it's 3 years old. Negotiate as if it were a used 2018.

Lead acid batteries that have sit for a long time fully discharged might able to be charged up again but they will never have full capacity or be fully charged.
Make sure they didn't come from the floods in south Texas.

On top of all the previous mentioned issues, inspect the roof caulking. Inspect the wall and corners inside the RV especially below the windows and in corners near the floor. MH tires can go 7 years, but a good test drive is in order to verify if they are flat spotted. Sometimes with use they will return to being round again. Batteries could be an issue. But I’d the price is really good and everything checks out, it may be a very good deal!

1. I would demand all new batteries. After 3 years, I can gurantee those batteries have gone dead a few times and have lost their life span.
2. Verify What warranty remains. Even NEW units, the OEM's have limitations on exterior sealants. Most do NOT cover exterior sealants after unit is 90 days old. 90 days from delivery TO the Dealer not the retail customer. So, examine the exterior Paint and sealants, If defects verify they will fix BEFORE delivery.
3. LOT ROT on RV's is REAL. Just sitting things deteriorate. Go thru the unit yourself, ALL THINGS, do not trust the PDI tech to catch these things
4. Missing/Robbed parts and appliances are also a big concern. They remove to put on other sold units and then forget to order and replace those items. THIS WILL NOT BE A WARRANTY CONCERN. If you are NOT local, do NOT allow the dealer to state,"just have your local dealer repair/install those items". WE get these type units all the time, from those dealers and the OEM's says NO WAY, we will NOT warranty missing or Broken items from another dealers delivery.
5. Look up what a 3 year old Model of what you are buying is selling for today, THAT is what your RV is worth when you buy today.
6. Having 2018 models left over usually points to a BADLY run Dealership from Sales to Service. Think about that when you tour that dealership and read reviews about them. They have been paying Floorplan interest for almost 2 to 3 years. Most smart Sales managers blow out unsold units after 6 months on the dealership at a discount. Doug

This. Depreciation on the current model year is bad enough but at 3 years old it's worth when you buy it will be the same as any other used 2018 of the same model. Use this to negotiate your price. Don't be surprised though if the dealer doesn't do a deeper discount. They have more money in it as they've had to keep it longer.

Nothing is new after you buy it. The year is what it is. You will be the owner of a used 2018.

It should be priced like a 2018 model. Check prices for similar used units, and consider what an extended warranty plan would cost on a used 2018 model and add that price to the fair market value of the used unit. That price, plus a small mileage allowance, should equal what you are paying for that new 2018 model. I doubt a dealer will discount the price that much on his new unit! Also, your purchase inspections should be just like buying a used 2018 model. The previous posts about inspecting caulking, tires, batteries, and all systems are very good.

In essence, you are buying a unit that is at least several years old and has been used by the dealer to show to prospective buyers. It is a used unit in that respect. The previous post about it being a used 2018 model as soon as you drive it off the lot needs to be considered seriously. What will your "new" 2018 model be worth 1 month after you buy it? Your purchase price should not be greater than than figure!
