It hasn't run in a while.Starting issue
It's been a while since I last posted and I haven't had a chance to research and ask for advice/support. A little History:
*We have a 2001 Shasta with E450 V-10.
*Fuel pump replaced in 2008
*It was parked in June 2009 when gas was $4.00/gal.
*It had about 1/4 tank when parked and I would go start it twice/month and kept saying "I need to get gas" and never did.
*starting twice/month degraded to once then none. Work, Family obligations and laziness happened.
*I attempted to start it some months afterward and after several attempts it did start and ran reasonably and would die. former neighbor told me fuel pump was bad.
*I did research and discovered everything I didn't do; No gas, No fuel treatment (after cleaning several motorcycles and ATV's I know better now. Ethanol Sucks)
*Today went and got 12 gal of fresh gas and treated with Marine Stabil and Seafoam. Turned on ignition and heard relay click and the wife said she could hear the pump whine "Sounds like my motorcycle when I turn on the ignition" She said. I said "good". I primed the line by turning the ignition on and off about 5 times and it took a while but it finally fired a couple times. Several more attempts and it started. I gave it gas and died. Couple more attempts and it started and I just let it run to operating temp. I would give it gas and it would rev. Wife said it sounded good and the exhaust didn't smell after it it had run a while.
I shut it down and did a few other things and attempted to start again and it took it a few, not as many as before, but it did start and run nice with no bad exhaust.
My question is. Is the fuel pump bad and not pressurizing enough or is it just still bad gas? Fuel filter Bad? Also the Gas cap won't seal now. Probably because of age so would that affect it?
This is all my fault. I guess I should have sprung for the gas back in the day but finances were tight during that time as you all know. I am retired and have time on my hands and if need be I will drop the tank and replace the pump if that is the problem. I spent $1200 to have a dealer replace the pump once. I can't afford that again. Is it easy enough to drop the tank? I have a bad leg and can't move as well but I will if I have to. And just in time for Arizona summer!! Thanks for reading my Looooong Post
