I'm Looking in to purchasing a used Class A. I can't afford a Diesel though I'd really like to have one. What was the last year of the Class A gm 8.1 v-8 made? Don't want to start a brand war but I'm a GM Fanatic.I was told that GM will someday start making Class A gas chassis again but nobody knows when, Anybody here know?

Hard braking has nothing to do with the failure. The failure was caused by the motorhome sitting for extended periods of time, and the fluid absorbing water. If the motorhome does not sit, or if it is stored in a dry climate, the brakes will not ever have a problem. Also if the fluid is changed regularly, it won't have a problem.
X-2, Very well stated!

? There is no brake recall issue if the recall was completed! And if it was not completed it will be done N/C.
I agree, the 8.1/Alison combination is hard to beat. GM ceased engine production in DEC 2011. Thanks.

There have been reports of brake issues here after the recall. If I were to ever buy another WH chassis it would be the W24. The W22 failed me to many times.

I just searched the Open Road Forum (Workhorse brake) and did not find a post substantiating you statement? I have not seen anything on the Workhorse Forum other than reports of "no caliper issues after the recall". I have 15k miles after recall with no issues and no problems before the recall. Also have had no problems with my W20 chassis.
What personal problem do you have with Workhorse? Thanks.

I've only read one post that I recall, and it was recent, where someone had post-recall brake issues and paid to have someone else replace everything again. That's the only one I recall reading in the past 3-4yrs. Not sure if there were others or not. I've put about 20k miles on, and many of them hard brake miles (Nova Scotia, Newfoundland) and have had no issues whatsoever.

Bob, The EPA forced GM not to sell anymore "Big Block" Chevy's past 12-31-11 due to they cannot pass EPA Standards. Everyone who owns a "Big Block" Chevy is Grandfathered In by the EPA which means we can run our motors until until they won't run anymore. I'm like you a "Big Block Chevy Guy". This engine IMHO is way better than the V-10 Triton, I owned in my last coach. I can't give you any information on Chevy's next "Big Block" they were to partner up with another company in the near future to produce a larger motor for Workhorse and take back there market share? I haven't heard anything from GM about that in about 6 months. The brake recall, which is hijacking your thread was a mistake by Bosch not Workhorse! I owned at that time and still due a 04 Adventurer (Winnebagos top of the line gas coach in 04) I had very little trouble with my coaches brakes, went in for a complete reline before the recall and Bosch paid everything in full. I love my 8.1 with the Allison!

My personnal problem with WH was buying one in 04 with several total brake failures endangering my family and everyone else on the road. They had no reguard for anyones safty saying when they cool down they should be ok. There was also a post here last week with sticking brakes again after the recall was done. I finally decided I would not subject my familys lives to WH anymore. I like to know when I hit the brakes they work. Sold it!!

As with most recalls, they do not affect all of the vehicles. Many on the various forums, which in total probably equal a very small percentage of owners, never had any problem with the Workhorse brakes. I never had any problems but I used my coach a lot and also flushed the brake fluid often.
If you find a W20, W22, or W24 that you like, don't worry about some recall that was taken care of years ago. Buy it and enjoy it.
If you search brake problems, you will find out that occasionally people have brake trouble on Fords, and even DP's.

The Winnie Adventurer Limited is a really nice coach....I almost bought one myself but the DW liked the floor plan of our HR more. Can't go wrong with a UFO gas pusher chassis, regardless of what house is on top of it.

Hey I was to leaning for the Workhorse with the 8.1, had this in my 02 Flair and loved the power but my newer Bounder 2008 has the Ford chassis with the V-10 with banks power pack and 5 speed tow-hual trans, will have to say this has better power and drives excellence, my newer bounder weights 5000 lbs more, I think Ford has done a great job since the newer 06 version have came out, I would not hesitate on that Ford chassis over the Workhorse..

I stand corrected. Posted in hast, no first hand experience with the recall. Thought I remembered posts on owners not being happy with the the final results of the recall.
