livingroom Slide out

I have a 1999 tour master. This morning is a cooler morning and was breaking down to leave and the living room slide wouldn't retract.
The batteries are fine, and the is nothing that I can see blocking anything. The floor moves up as normal but about three inches on the trip in the top just stops. I have tried everything I know to do. Any suggestions?
  • Bruce Brown,

Agreed. Ours won't go OUT while the engine is running (safety feature). However, they will come IN with the engine running. As I said, the extra available voltage at the motor really helps some times.

I can understand why they'd lock out slide extension with the engine running, but I'm not sure why they'd lock out slide retraction with the engine running. Ditto my leveling jacks. They won't lower with the engine running, but they will retract.

Hopefully the OP will let us know if he's found the problem.

I'm assuming this is an electric slide motor?

If so, start the engine and try to bring in the slide. The extra few volts from the running alternator can be a big help to that motor as it tries to lift and move the heavy slide.

If that works, then I would do some snooping and look for loose/burned grounds and/or power wires. It could also be a sign that your batteries are getting old or require some maintenance.

    Good Luck,

If it's electric it depends on how it's wired. Our slides won't move when the key is turned.
  • basmiles,

Any updates? Did you get the slide to come in?

    slide needs lubed

Or, cleaned and lubed. I would consider using Brake clean, or carb. sprayer cleaner to remove the grime. Then use either Motorcycle chain spray lube, or white lithium grease spray lube, as both these products will penetrate and then dry, so they do not collect as much dirt. If the problem is due to the mechanism needing attention, spraying the tracks/gears with the cleaner and then trying to retract the slide may work, for now. It could also be electrical as mentioned earlier.

  • Auto resetting breaker is getting weak or something is causing the motor to draw too much current. A bad breaker is the most likely - I would just swap it out, they're cheap.
  • Mine stops sometimes.. I turn off the switch and wait a few seconds until something resets and then it works again.
