We are looking to purchase a new-to-us Class A and have looked at several. While we like the added room you get with slide outs, it's frustrating that having the bedroom slide means you can't get around the bed while the slide is in. I don't think we care about extra room in the bedroom. Can anyone recommend a smaller Class A (30-34 feet) that DOESN'T have a bedroom slide, or would allow you to walk around the bed with the slide in? We're looking to spend around 40k.

How often would you need to access the bedroom without putting the slide out? While you're driving? Having lunch while traveling? Even if you boondock at WalMart you could just scoot over to the one slide for one night. I don't think I'd concentrate on finding a no-slide bedroom.However, here are some that you might consider or just to get an idea of what's out there. Can't directly answer your question, but I can add to the previous poster. I went the opposite direction from you. First motorhome was a Rexhall with one slide. Queen bed in the back with the head of the bed toward the rear of the motorhome. It was liveable, but the space between the bed and the wall was very tight and hard to move around in and make the bed. Next motorhome had three slides with the bedroom slide as you described blocking access to the back closet and cabinet. It really hasn't been that much of a problem. It's a short slide so it opens really easy and when open gives so much more room in the bedroom to move around and make up the bed. Yeah, I've climbed over the bed a few times to get to the closet but to me the extra space when open was worth the blocked access.

My 99 coach has only one slide (as did many back then). Like Msmith1199, I find the bedroom very tight and would much prefer the extra space a bedroom slide would provide.

And I forgot to mention, the bedroom on the single slide Rexhall had very limited closet space. The bedroom slide in the DP allows me to have a closet that runs almost the full length of the back of the motorhome.

I have a 2001 gasser with one slide. Get back to me in October. Might be for sale then.

There are a ton of 1-slide DP out there. Once they (slides) caught on, the typical single slide was the LR, followed by the Bedroom as a second one.

If you like the feel of having your coach almost as usable down the highway as it is in the campground, no slide and 1 slides are great. Once you get into multiple slides, they become far less usable and passenger friendly down the highway. Almost all of our walls on both sides are slides, which makes it incredibly massive inside when opened up, but when closed, not much is usable. We can get to the fridge, the 1/2 bath, and there is a place on the couch to sit but kitchen, beds, etc are not reasonably accessible.

And don't forget someday you may wish to sell this motorhome. 90 percent plus of potential buyers are going to want that bedroom slide.

As you consider a mh without a bedroom slide, be sure you spend some time in one. It works for some people, but others find it less appealing. Probably why you see so many rigs with bedroom slides. We had a rental without a bedroom slide. I found it a bit too tight with limited bedroom storage. So as we shopped, I was looking for a bedroom slide. Granted, the space next to our bed is stilll rather narrow, but wider than the rental. Changing sheets is not significantly harder for me. We have more storage, though we cannot open bedroom drawerswith slide in; theoretically we'd plan ahead if we were going to need something from those drawers. And better than ot having thatstorage space at all. If we ever spend a night with that slide in, I'd either crawl over DH to get in and out of bed...or just sleep on the sofa if I thought I need to get up too frequently.

Even when our bedroom slide is in you have full access to 2 sides of the bed. The bedroom slide is all wardrobe and it doubles our clothing storage.

We have 2 slides and the bedroom slide does keep us from accessing the closets, however, we never need to get in the closets when going down the road We have never been anywhere in 6 years of full-time that we could not have the slide open. Even at Walmart since it's not a supersize slide and not that deep, we open the bedroom one. Ours are only about 2' unlike some of the newer, deeper slides.

I wanted full access to the bedroom while traveling. Most trips involve overnight stops where putting slides out is not always an option (truck stops, rest areas, etc.) I do have the 14' dinette couch slide that creates space once we reach our final destination but does not limit full use of everything when it is in.

I decided to go to a MH so that everything was accessible during travel. Otherwise I would have stayed with a trailer or FW and had a thicker wallet:)

Our Southwind is a single slide; living room and dinette/kitchen.

I remodeled my "bedroom" and made it into a "BEDROOM" by installing a full king size bed.

We have no slide and there's about ten inches on the sides of the bed. It's enough to get around and make the bed but for the most part we climb in bed over the top.

Figured 10 seconds of crawling for 8 hours of comfort was a good deal.

I don't see the having a slide in and doing a little crawling is a big deal. I'd just want a king. A FULL king that is. Not a RV king.

It's a bedroom so I put a bed in it LOL!

What we do if we are in a hurry packing up and don't want to open the slide, is just put the clothes on the bed. When we get to the first camping location and open the slide then we hang everything up. It really just hasn't been an issue for us.
