Looking to upgrade to a class A from 77 VW Campmobile

From my investigation, Country Coach, Newmar, Tiffin are the best. Gonna take some legwork but what most folks recommend is to visit dealerships and you will eventually find the floorplan you like.

You stated, "...to set up as a permanent home." A mobile home or park model travel trailer would be better suited than a motor home. Why pay for an engine and transmission as well as converter, inverter, etc. that you will never use?

The OP also said it will be used to go south in the winter and back to Minnesota in the summer.

Partial to Newman as I just bought one. If it were just me, I'd look at the Bay Star Sports, and with the slides, shorter length may be fine.

IF that VW is in good shape? you might make a great trade. call mike wolf on american pickers he,s a VW nut.

Stating a price range would help. I'd buy a brand new Prevost if I could afford it. We're quite happy with our roomy new Winne Vista 36Y with it's 3 slides and king bed. We had to spend 3 weeks in it while changing homes and were 'fairly' comfortable! Ford chassis are all that is left in the new gas Class A field and their V-10 has been around for a couple of decades now and is about as bulletproof and reliable as any engine can be. Several choices with Diesels chassis if you have the money to spend. I'd suggest a few hours browsing RV Trader. I think you will find the best prices on Winnies and Thors. All the manufacturers use pretty much the same components so differences in similar price ranges are minimal. Expect to have little pain in the ass build issues with anything you get. QC isn't too good on any of them. If it's not a big, costly deal, I prefer to just fix it myself and avoid dealing with taking it back in. Bugs my wife but buying new is more about a little prestige and confidence in the running gear than expecting everything to be perfect.

Have you set a budget for a coach, my choice would be a good used Foretravel or a Country Coach, check with Motorhomes of Texas.

that is such a wide wide spectrum of choices its hard to opine.
your price range is from 15K to 325K ? whats your budget?
would look at newmar and tiffin if going new. maybe winni/itaska
used again 32ft or 40 ft gas or diesel 15K or 150K or
just too big a spread to give a serious answer

Last time I went through Fishersville, Va. There was a guy that was selling VW Campmobiles right off of I 64 That might be a good place to start looking. Near by in Lexington, Va. has a good camp ground complete with a great restaurant attached. Happy hunting!
