I had a huge problem with squirrels. They got up into the engine compartment, chewed through the main wiring harness at the firewall, and even took off all the insulation from the battery cables. What I did was put two deflated footballs in the area so they would not have room. The other thing is get some bronze wool, is like steel wool, but wont rust. Plug all the openings with it. If you keep your rig plugged in, they can climb the cord and enter that opening. Make sure the cord is hanging down a complete 90 degrees, which makes it much harder for them.
