Need new DP

I need a new DP

We are considering a 40 or 42 ft Phaeton, but I am concerned the 42 ft is too big for some places we go.

I like the entegra's but back to to large for some of the places we go to.

would like to consider other MHs in addition to tiffin

Like newmar but not crazy about having to get a tag axle for a 40 ft model - Maybe I should reconsider this issue

Are the fleetwoods 40 ft dependable?

What MH am I missing?
  • Entegra has a 40' model if you want to go that way, but I must say I was nervous going from 41' to 45 feet but now that I have the 45 it is a non-issue for me. 35 to 45 is a big deal, but 40 to 45 is not.
  • does it have to be a pusher ?

haulmark, renegade, showhauler all make some great conversion trucks with a minimum of 450+ hp & 12speed auto trans.

the conversion trucks don't have a TAG axle - their 2nd axle is an actual DRIVEN axle with duel tires.
the drive axles (both of them have independent locking diff's & the axles can be locked together - if you really need 4 wheel drive ;)

maintenance on conversion trucks lower since access to the engine & trans is easier (no reason to go thru the coach & bedroom to work on the top of the motor).
  • Winnebago ha a 40' without a tag. Measures 41'4"!Journey 40U for 13 & 14 not sure what the mod is for 15!
Am hearing Tiffin is having QC ISSUES , but they are all having them.
Any diesel after 2010 has to have DEF. TO MY KNOWLEDGE. Our 40U has more storage than
The 42-43', 380 cummins has good power. Improving all the time. Am at 17,000 mi. Right now.
  • We have the Newmar Dutch Star in the 40' model. It's exactly 40' and has the tag. I wanted my next coach to have a tag for handling, so that was never an issue. The only issue with the 40' and a tag is the loss of storage space. The side radiator and a huge exhaust system (DEF) also eat up space.
  • At that length a couple of feet isn't going to make any difference in CG accessibility.
  • Dan,

We have never had any problems getting into any campground that we want to due to our size (unless they were full). The tags lift so you have a very nice turning radius.

A tag also allows you ample CCC so that you never have to worry about the extra weight. And, I like having a tag to rotate a set of fresh tires to the front if needed. If you have one front go flat and need a new tire, I would put the tags on the front and that one new tire on the tag so that your fronts will match.

We are going larger on our new coach so I have no worries about getting into any campground that we want to visit (within reason of course). We don't go to state campgrounds so if that's an issue, you may want to go shorter than 40 ft.

    Safe travels,
    MM.
