New RV somewhere

My wife and I went to an single dealer RV show in early March. We were in the market for a Class B or Class C. We found just what we wanted and bought it at the show. A delivery date was set for three weeks later. The dealer said they needed the time to check it all out and clean it up, also to repair any problems they find. The unit is new. When the date arrived to pick it up the dealer postponed the delivery for at least 2 weeks saying they had just ordered parts for some cosmetic damage in the bedroom area. This after ordering parts and waiting 10 days for them to arrive for an earlier repair in the same area. No future date is set. They are to let me know when the repairs are made.

Is this normal for an RV dealer? Do they want to set an appearance of poor service from the beginning? I would think this is the time for them to establish good relations. I have purcased 2 other RV's new from dealers in the past and neither took more than 3 days for delivery. 5 weeks + seems a little concerning.

I think I better remove it from my signature until we actually pick it up.

Well I hope I never need an engine or a tranny also. I do think Ford is a little faster with parts.

Finally picked up the RUV today. The damage in the bedroom is not fixed as the parts have not arrived, however when I saw the damage I was surprised how minor it was. Also the electric operated shade on the sky light needs repaired and will be when the parts are in for that. In the mean time it will be at my house and we will be getting it set up and hopefully a weekend out to check all systems. The dealer is working hard to get it right. So at this point we are happy with it. I will expect the remainder of the repairs to be done by April 1.

Jeez! Hope you never need and engine or tranny.

I guess I should look at it this way: if I needed it now I should have bought it three weeks earlier.

I am glad that it is only minor cosmetics and getting the part is the hold up. When I went to pick mine up I had an appointment at the dealer for my walk through at 11 am. They kept telling me that they were backed up that day and by the time I got to see my unit it was 3:30 pm and things were still not right. I rushed the walk through because I had to have my son drive me to the dealer 120 miles away and I really regret doing that. I found things like the bathroom door stop broken and laying on the floor, tire pressures that were 10 lbs low, the bolts holding the spare on were loose, mismatched house batteries 1 gp 27 and 1 gp 24 and that was in the short time I had. I found more once I got it home but those I fixed myself because it would cost more in gas round trip than the parts cost. So my advise is go early, dont let them put you off and go over everything with a fine tooth comb. Its better to get everything done then than wait weeks or months after they have your money.

Getting parts for a unit from the manufacturer, as compared to something like a light fixture that is made by someone else and just installed by them, DOES take a long time. I give the dealer credit for wanting to make the unit right before turning it over to you. ST

or they took parts from yours to fix another unit and now they are trying to get yours fixed.
Doesn't seem likely as, if they were going to put someone on a wait list, it would have made more sense to make the already owned unit wait and move on closing the deal on the new unit.

I would definitely want to see my unit. If it was at the show it may have been in an accident on the way back or someone may have damaged something while at the show
Seems more likely, especially considering mention made of parts needing to be ordered.

Just got back from the dealer. Apparently the issue lies in getting parts. This is what happened, a drawer from under the bed appearantly flopped back and forth and marked up the wall and the corner trim. The drawer is damaged as well as the trim. All parts are at the dealers except for the drawer front. I asked them to get it together except for the drawer and I will bring it back when the drawer arrives. They are looking at sometime the first week in April. There is no damage that impairs the coach, just cosmetic. Minor issue that should have been solved early in the buying process.

I think the main issue is that the salesperson does not follow through with the delivery. It keeps getting handed off to someone else and when three, four or five people are involved things get out of control. Suddenly there is no urgency and no one accountable. We set next week as delivery. We shall see!!!

For a new coach this is insane. I'd be there on top of them and demand to see the coach immediately. Check things out for yourself on this one. See if things are reasonable (to what they are saying) and go from there. Or demand "another one" of the same model that's ready to go.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Sounds like a camping world. Hope it works out for you. I just picked up my new trailer today. We were rushed... Got home and finally poked around. Found cabinet door latches bent, hinges off, one of the two speakers inside doesn't work... All stuff I will fix. Kinda expected it after all the complaints about quality. It is worth it and I'm still excited to have a trailer I really like.

Good idea. I may just make a run over there later in the week and "see the issues for myself"
Good idea????? I'd call it an imperative. If a dealer told me that a unit I had ordered 'new' arrived "damaged" and that they needed anything in the way of substantial time to fix (like more than an hour or so to tighten a couple of screws etc), I'd sure immediately be thinking of walking from the deal. I'd probably be willing to take the time that very same day to drive over to see the damage with my own eyes before a camo expert, defect hider in chief dealer papered over the damage such that I'd only find it a week after my warranty expired, before walking though. I don't wish to knowingly spend my money on mfr, delivery vendor or dealer damaged goods that are represented to me as "new". At best it is "new"ly repaired and I'd was a 'used price'. Lord knows that enough goes wrong with even a perfect unit.

The dealer is lying and hiding a major problem. Clearly they cannot be trusted. "Run Forrest run", to a competent lawyer and get the purchase contract canceled. Good luck.
