New RV somewhere

My wife and I went to an single dealer RV show in early March. We were in the market for a Class B or Class C. We found just what we wanted and bought it at the show. A delivery date was set for three weeks later. The dealer said they needed the time to check it all out and clean it up, also to repair any problems they find. The unit is new. When the date arrived to pick it up the dealer postponed the delivery for at least 2 weeks saying they had just ordered parts for some cosmetic damage in the bedroom area. This after ordering parts and waiting 10 days for them to arrive for an earlier repair in the same area. No future date is set. They are to let me know when the repairs are made.

Is this normal for an RV dealer? Do they want to set an appearance of poor service from the beginning? I would think this is the time for them to establish good relations. I have purcased 2 other RV's new from dealers in the past and neither took more than 3 days for delivery. 5 weeks + seems a little concerning.

I think I better remove it from my signature until we actually pick it up.

I would definitely want to see my unit. If it was at the show it may have been in an accident on the way back or someone may have damaged something while at the show or they took parts from yours to fix another unit and now they are trying to get yours fixed.

That strikes me as pretty odd behavior - if *I* was an RV dealer and there truly was an issue, I'd show it to you, and then explain how I was going to fix it. Then you'd think I was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I suspect they sold your unit (or something dire happened to it) and they're stalling you. Or they sold it too cheap, and are hoping you'll walk away....

Good idea. I may just make a run over there later in the week and "see the issues for myself"

Walk away and report at least to the BBB. Buy another RV. Sue them for any additional expense....probably small claims.

I don't think that sounds normal either. Maybe they sold it to someone else who walked through the lot and spotted it, and then they just re-ordered yours because you seemed like a nice, patient person. Have you ever actually seen your unit on their lot?

In any event, to have an open-ended date now would have me sending a letter requesting a refund (for breach of contract?)

Personally, I would back out of the deal. On two RVs purchased from the same dealer, I agreed to having corrections done after delivery. Everything was taken care of on time and in a professional manner. We are in the process of getting a new RV from them soon. I have confidence in both the sales and service departments. Unless you got an extraordinary deal that would make you want to wait these guys out, I would walk. That is not to say that something came up that is beyond their control. It happens. I would expect a good explanation.
