New to us RV

We recently bought a used 2003 Winnebago Adventurer 33V. It has around 31,000 miles. The unit came on a W22 Workhorse Chassis with the 8.1/Allison power train.

The layout and interior is well preserved for a 10 year old machine. Lots of power...here it comes...we seem to be plagued with electrical issues, some chassis and some coach.

On our first trip right now (started May 1) so nearly 2 weeks into a 2 month jaunt.

First thing to happen was a 40 amp ignition fuse blew. I was able to discover it by deduction, new one in an d so far no repeat performance. We stopped for three days and then as we were preparing to leave, no turn signals. 4 way flashers worked ok.

Sadly had the signals looked at and fixed and the next time the Rv sat for a few days...no signals again.

Anyone else have any similar issues with their workhorse?

Electric problems are the worst! Glad you got it fixed.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

You can tell if the coach was tampered with as the wires under the driver's side of the dash but wires looking like a bird's nest especially if they are way below the dash in plain sight. Hate when people mess with those wires.

It was bought at auction in Phoenix about 3 months ago. We bought it from a Truck and RV broker. It's certainly possible it could be previous owner tampering, there's evidence of a CB radio connection, a lube pump connection for sure.

I'm not sure how much a possibility of flood there is. There is no appearance of water damage, the coach is in very nice condition over all and for a unit from Phoenix it looks like it was under cover as the exterior is not sun bleached or sand blasted.

Workhorse chassis has a known intermittent problem with the Switch units in the steering column. Do some back search of old posts and you will find some mention of it. I had a 06 W22 which would sometimes not turn on the flashers and sometimes stop having a right blinker. Do some basic troubleshooting and pay close attention to the Multi-switch in the steering column. It does a lot of work in a small area and is subject to constant movement and use. Just a thought.

Where did you buy the unit. Is there any chance that it had any kind of flood or high water damage? Electrical problems can be difficult to trace. There could be a loose connection, rodent damage, previous owner tampering, etc.

I originally thought of the flasher unit, so I bought a new one and nothing changed.

We're travelling so I took it to local automotive shop who were able to get us in right away (thanks TJ's Automotive, Warrenton Ore) nice folks.

The tech replaced the flasher (new one I bought)and the 15 amp fuse. Both were toast. I checked the fuse this morning and it appears to be OK. Flasher is of course a little more difficult to get at.

I wonder if the 4 way flasher uses the same flasher unit, if so it appears to be working also.

I don't have a similar unit so, I can't help you.
When you had the signals fixed what did they do? If it's listed on the repair order maybe you can start by checking what was worked on or replaced.
I'm sure someone will have a better answer. :S
