newmar 2005, engine wont crank over and no voltage

We havea Newmar Kountry Star 2005 , we camped a few weeks ago and on the way home stopped and the engine would not crank over , we spent an hour playing with batteries and the ignition as the ignition was loose so we tightened it up and after a while it started ????.all goid took it to storage and thus weekend went to get it out and it will not crank over checked all battery connections again seem ok, interior lights work, exterior lights and signals work, generator will not start (first time ever) and reading no voltage checked fuses seem ok but wondered about relays ??has anyone had this issue looks like a tow in for us .
  • Ever pull off the battery connections and clean them with a "post" cleaner ? Even without corrosion build up they may still be "black" . Could be a bad ground connection too.
  • Thats our dilema too had low batteries before but genny always started when boosted if not right away , had booster calbes on zn hour still no voltage, its a Diesel, will be towing it in today its a mystery this one
  • I thought I had your answer until you said the genny wouldn't crank. Now I'm thinking it's your batteries.
  • Have you tried the "boost" switch when you try to start the engines in the coach or generator?

A simple way to check your battery is to turn the headlights on and while someone watches them try cranking. If the headlights go out your battery is bad or you have bad connections. My generator starting battery is the same as the engine battery so it not starting says you have a bad engine battery/connections not your start switch.
It bothers me that you got it to work for a while which tends to be a bad starter solenoid.
  • With the info provided it sounds as though the battery is too low to start the engine. The battery may be strong enough for lights and the other things mentioned to work, but not strong enough to start the engine. You might want to have the battery or batteries load tested. JMO
  • Lights take very little current. Starters on both your generator and engine require a lot of current. If the battery terminals are tight, check the other end of the cable at the ground to frame connection. A loose connection will still allow the lights to function but might not allow enough current for the starters, especially if the lights dim, or go out, when you turn the key to the start position.
  • What chassis-- gas or diesel?

When this happens, do other things that only work with the key on work-- dash HVAC fan for example?

Do the dash warning lights come on when you turn on the key?
