Norcold 1200 replacement with minor cabinet mods.

I have been looking at and measuring various refrigerators for several years trying to find a large (20+ cu ft) replacement for the Norcold 1200's that would not require any cabinet enlargement/modification. While I have not actually installed this whirlpool WRT771REYW refer I have measured it carefully (65.25" high) and it should fit without having to modify the cabinet area. You can get it with a SS front and here are more on it.
Sorry but I cannot get a click to work so here are two links for additional info:
Darn...:M I can't even get those links to post because of wrong formatting so do a Google search: "whirlpool wrt771reyw"
I actually bought a SS one at a Sears Outlet as it's a discontinued item at Sears for less than $900. Not sure if I'll replace my 1200 as unlike the Samsung 197 which uses DC compressors, I would probably replace my MSW inverter or add a separate Pure SW inverter to power it.
  • Frigidaire also makes several in their 'Gallery' line that will fit the Norcold space with only minimal mods to accommodate a bit more height.

While it is always good to have ventilation space around any fridge, most all the newer fridges are designed to ventilate out the bottom front. When we installed the Frigidaire in our previous coach, the only clearance requirement was 1" or so at the back.
  • Be sure to keep in mind the space required on all sides, and the rear, for proper ventilation. The Whirlpool is already more than 4" deeper than the Norcold and with the extra room required for ventilation, it may stick out into the coach enough to become an obstacle.

I agree with what Old-B is trying to say about the difference in height. The Norcold has four screws top and bottom that hold it in and I may have to cut the wood piece across the top out to gain the difference in height.
    OK, with minor cabinet modification.
  • Whirlpool WRT771REYW dimensions.........LINK

    65 1/2"............height
    32 1/2"............width
    28 1/2"............depth

    Norcold 1200 dimensions (rough opening)

    63 1/4".......height
    32 11/16".....width
    24"...........depth
  • We bought the GE version GTS16DTHBB which is slightly smaller than yours....but the idea was the same. No cabinet mods. It doesn't have the ice and water in the door because those are the controls that seem most sensitive to MSW inverters.

Ours runs fine on our 1800 Xantrex MSW inverter/charger and we are sure happy with it.

I only had to reinforce the floor slightly and put trim pieces around the frig.

Good luck with yours. You won't regret it.
