Norcold frig Question

Has been working great, starting yesterday ice maker slow on making ice. Temp outside is 85 F, setting on door is on 4. Notice a lot of frost behind ice tray on wall and below ice tray on wall. Do not remember that much frost on wall. We are going to campground where not much available so have filled the freezer fairly full. It is double door frig. Just trying to figure out. Thanks.

Frost will stop the icemaker. Easy way to defrost is to turn Fridge off.
Open only the door where the icemaker is, remove food and defrost with a hair dryer (Stay back about one foot and keep moving so you don't damage the plastic parts) takes about 5 or 10 minutes. Clean up the water and dry the walls with a towel. Then turn unit back on and replace the food. High humidity (in the coach) causes this. I have had the same problem when traveling.

We defrost the icemaker side (icemaker side only) about every 3 months or so as it gets frosted up. The seal is good but with high humidity and opening it very often it gets frost fast. I hope this helps also, Bill
  • The temperature of the ice cube mold dropping triggers the "harvest" cycle of the ice maker. If the mold doesn't get cold enough, it will never make any ice. If the mold doesn't get cold enough fast enough, ice production will decrease. My notes tell me the trigger temperature is 15 degrees - cold enough to ensure the ice cubes are fully formed.

  • What are the temps of the upper and lower boxes.

10 plus years is a bit over normal life of cooling units today. They often die over a few years and most are noticed in May-Aug.

You may raise the setting but expect it may be running all the time set on four.

It was a summer trip that set off the red flag for us. Next year we put in an Amish built cooling unit.
  • If the humidity is high where you are that's most likely the cause especially if you open the freezer door frequently. It's also possible the freezer door seal may not be working properly.
  • My freezer does build up frost over a period of time, but the refrigerator does not. We keep ours set at 6 and it has worked pretty good since I bought the coach new in 2003.
