Onan Gen 5500

I have a 2001 Winnebago Adventurer. My gen cut off while in use driving. It cranks but will not start. Watched the green light flash code 33. Anyone know what that is and how to repair? Thanks NYNY.
  • The Onan on my 1999 Adventurer would run a short time and shutdown. It would not restart for an hour or more. On this forum I read the possible cause was the fuel pump. One poster stated his generator would run in the driveway but not while driving. This was caused by a weak fuel pump. I had also read that the oil sending unit may be the problem. I changed the send unit but it did not fix my problem. I the crossed the Onan fuel pump number with an Airtex fuel pump (exact match). I replaced the pump and the generator worked as it should. Hope this helps.
  • I just read a post on irv2 about the temp sensor causing problems but they were talking a bout diesels. Same types of sensors/circuits could be used on several models. If you look at a wiring schematic you may be able to figure out how it works. Some sensors have one wire which makes or breaks a ground and others could be more complex . There may be an easy way to isolate it depending on how it works.

What is the model and serial number?
  • Google Onan 5500 generator code 33. You will get info about reading the codes to make sure you are getting the correct answer. A code 33 means High Coolant Temperature but if it does not run then the temp could not be high. ???? Sorry I can not be of more help.
