Open alcohol containers

In many states, it is illegal to carry open alcoholic beverage containers in motor vehicles. Does this apply to RV's? We'd like to carry the vino in the notch in the front door.

I live in SoCal and would stow it in the back where it would not be found in a normal traffic stop. If you're driving buzzed then you're already busted. If you're not driving buzzed and the officer asks for license and registration. Try not to blurt out " OPEN CONTAINER ? WHAT OPEN CONTAINER ? "

We use our Roadtrek to transport me wherever we go, I have to lay down due to an injury. When we go out to dinner (yes, I stand at the high tables) there is always a half bottle of wine left over. We put it in a bag, then stuff it in the passenger side, door pocket to keep it from flying all over in stops. Now reading this thread, there is NO where in the van we can legally put it. We live in Calif. Crazy.

I asked a similar question a while back:

The results: Most states, if it is behind the cab, it is OK. California, since a RV doesn't have a partition (like some cargo vans), alcohol is illegal in any part of the van.

I believe most states (you will have to read the actual law to know) the main point will be the vehicle moving or immediately able to move.
A RV setup to camp is looked at differently than one ready to drive off.

This has been discussed many times before. Here's one:

It is going to depend on your state.

If it's in the front door pocket, or anywhere in the drivers area, it's a ticket. If it's back in the "home", portion of your rv, your ok.

I think carrying open containers in the front door pocket is asking for problems.
Keep it in the back.

In Michigan, I'm pretty sure the law says something to the affect it can't be accessible by the driver of an rv, taxi, bus, limo, etc.

I would err on the side of caution and relocate that open bottle somewhere other than the front seat area.
