Our Tip for the First Trips for Newbies

As a brand new newbie with little experiential knowledge but a moderate amount of head knowledge (and fortunately, in this case, smart enough to know the difference) we decided when we bought our new to us Class A a few weeks ago that we would spend three nights at the dealership campground. It was absolutely the best decision for us. We had access to the salesmen, the manager, the technician, the parts department and anyone else we needed. We were in and out of the store many times asking lots of questions. Needless to say I had initially written down questions to ask (and faithfully recorded the answers) and we also videoed the PDI but still having them close by gave us time to ask those questions we couldn’t think of initially. We will be going on our next trip to a horse show in the same city but we will be staying on the show grounds. Again, we know that we will be in close contact with the dealership and they’ll be available should we need them. In addition, we have several friends who will be camping next to us so we’ll have help if we need it. All of this in preparation for an Easter trip to Charleston, SC. Hopefully by then we’ll be able to successfully venture out on our own! Now if the weather will just cooperate.
  • Gale,

You have demonstrated a great deal of Rare sense (I just can't call it common any longer). I really like the idea of recording the PDI, but even most of the people doing the PDI don't know everything about the subject RV, so, being in their own lot is a great idea.

  • I have never had a motor home but to me it would be remembering the crazy stuff like overhead obstacles or dragging the side on a metal post etc. I pull a small travel trailer and force myself to go into turbo full alert mode when I'm going into gas stations or other places. I dont want to end up on you tube with one point three million hits. :)
  • Congratulations Gale !
I don't know of anyone who has researched Class A's as much as you have.
Good idea to have a smaller trip first.
If you need to talk, you have my phone #.
    Travel safely,

  • I will be in Charleston next week. Love that place. You started off the right way, you will be fine.
