PD charge wizard

I have a 50 amp RV with two coach batteries, which PD charge wizard do I need..?? I installed one on my previous MOHO and it was 30 amp,,never boiled another battery after that ..Now, the original Magnajunk was a different story..!!
  • I am currently looking at a PD 9245CV-45 amp--with Pendant..$146.00 and free shipping..
  • 45 amp should be fine unless you have more than two house batteries you charge with the generator.

There is only one charge wizard.. What you meant to ask is what size coverter do I need and the answer is non-sufficent information

    You said Two Choach Batteries

Two Group 24 is 150 amp horus times 0.30 = 45 amp converter

Two Group 29 is around 200 amp hours times 0.30 = 60 amp converter

Two GC-2 Golf car batteries = 230 amp hours times 0.30=690 so round to 70 see note

    Two 8D = about 500 amp hour times 0.30 = 150 amps.

    See how it works.

NOTE: My coach came with a pair of GC2 plus the starting battery and they gave me an 80 amp.> The result was the first few years I only had to add distilled water to the GC-2 about annually and they just missed 9 years by about a month, the starting battery by about 3 months.

In short.. A very good match.

The 0.30 comes from Xantrex, and is specific to most wet cells, GEL types use 0.20 and do not use a charge wizard controller as they will damage GEL's (Of course big 12 volt GEL's are very rare) AGM's. depending on the brand, the 0.30 can be as much as 3.00 and the wizard is good there, will do no harm.

This is why I say GEL is a very bad choice.. But I do not feel AGM's are worth the added cost so I do not recommend them either.
  • Thanks WA8,I believe the 45 amp will be sufficient..I have two group 24 wet cells..
  • A 60 amp should be sufficient, but if you consider anything higher than that, first check what size the wires are at the batteries. If yours are 8awg, you're good to go. Any convertor greater than 60amp may require a heavier wire.

Yes with two Group 24's the 45 is the proper size.

NOTE: if you have the headroom, when those 24's go south in say a decade, you might consider a pair of GC-2 Six volt, you wire them in series instead of parallel but you go from 150 amp hours of marine/Deep cycle to 230 of TRUE deep cycle that is nearly 2x the power. (And of course you can upgrade to the 60 then)
