Problem with House Batteries

I recently changed my four 6v house batteries in my '99 Fleetwood 37V, but now have no interior lighting at all. I marked the cables and drew a diagram of the wiring prior to removing the old batteries so I'm pretty sure I rewired all four batteries correctly. After the new batteries were installed I measured 12.8vdc leaving the series/parallel house battery wiring to the Inverter - but it seems 12vdc is not reaching my interior lighting. I've checked every fuse and circuit breaker i can find, but cannot find one that is identified as "interior lighting or "house wiring." Anyone with a similar year Fleetwood know where the interior light fuse is located?

  • check the circuit breakers on your converter/inverter your 12 volt juice flows through it
  • Thanks I'll check the Inverter breaker. The interior lights I was referring to are the 12vdc ceiling lighting. The way I understand it, the Inverter takes in 12vdc and outputs 120vac. Do you happen to know whether the 12vdc lighting circuitry also gets routed through the Inverter?

  • Does your other 12 volt stuff work like your water pump?

No, nothing that is normally powered by the 12v house batteries is working. When I removed the old house batteries I suspect I may have mislabled the outgoing +12v House Battery cable, then during the installation of the new batteries I must have accidentally placed it on a negative battery terminal, so I no longer have a 12vdc interior circuit. Any idea how I might trace the +12v outgoing cable from battery compartment to its first termination point?

Another question. Do the 12v interior lighting run off the House Batteries or the Starter Batteries?

Second question first: the interior lights run off the house battery. Basically, the only things that run off the starter/chassis battery are things directly related to the chassis: the main engine starter, the transmission, the headlights and running lights, that sort of thing. Often a power entry step is also wired to the chassis battery; and occasionally the generator starter is wired to it as well. Interior lights (possibly excluding a light or two in the cockpit area), appliances, etc. all run off the house battery.

First question: You have to follow the wires to see where they lead; unfortunately, there's no simple foolproof way to figure such things out without doing that work. Wires that lead directly to a chassis ground connection (perhaps via a shunt if you have a fancy battery monitor) are obviously negative ones. Wires that lead to a fuse or circuit breaker are positive ones. Hopefully there aren't too many others to sort out.

did the system work prior to replacing the batteries. If so you have a miss wire . Can you post a picture of the top of the batteries with the wiring. The below pictures are fro 12v and 6v. They also are connected to give you a balance power, meaning they should last longer and charge the same to each battery. post back. we can not help you if you do not reach out more than once.

Here is a picture from the web. wiring
  • 12 volt circuits have fuses. Look under panel at foot of bed, if not there check manual. There were a lot of breakers and some fuses in the electrical compartment under the Drivers side along with air compressor hookup and windshield washer tank etc. in the Revolution.

    Yep...blown 12V fuse or relay.
