I'm having some work done on my 2000 Winnebago Minnie Winnie by a mobile tech in Southeast Texas. Although there was a disagreement on the previously agreed to price, the work that was completed could be considered acceptable. Based on his performance I asked him about two other jobs on the same RV. I specificially told him I wanted total cost before any parts were ordered. That was on December 2nd. On January 6th he told me the parts could take three months to arrive. Still no price. The parts are: a skylight for the bathroom, gas shocks for the bay doors and some plastic catch locks. also for the bay doors. On January 28th he told me the skylight arrived but was the wrong one. As of today still nothing. I think he's blowing smoke. What is your opinion?

I would tell him he has a skylight.I would not want to have this individual working on my rig.

If factory parts are needed, could very well be a correct time delay because most every maker has been running behind in parts fulfillment during the heavy winter build months (show orders). I speak to FR from personal experience - 8 to 12 weeks to get factory-only parts. However, some of what you are looking for are likely generic items.You seem to suggest you are not really happy with the technician or work-to-date so why not just get a second opinion on repairs and a written quote from someone else?

Is exactly the way I feel! I've lost all trust in his ability to do what he says he will do. I want to call him and tell him because of his unprofessionalism I'm canceling all work. Thanks for your input!

He replaced an awning, a side window and my retractable steps. The awning was first and without a hitch. When it came time to pay for the second job there was a slight price discrepancy. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. And, when we started the third job, which is the three items mentioned in the original post, I specifically said I wanted prices and installation costs before anything was ordered. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. He has not provided costs. Regarding the post just above: does the factory still build parts for a 2000?

don't you be unprofessional, just say you aren't getting the work done at this time.

You ask him to give you a price first. He didn't that raises a big red flag.
He is not doing what you asked. Get rid of him!

Sounds like a bait/switch where he does one good job to hook you, then starts working you. It sounds SUPER shady. I would cancel all work and see about ordering parts myself. Have them delivered to a local address and then find a handyman to install them. You are not asking for really unusual, RV only work.

Thanks DaHose! I plan on making the call to him this afternoon. While I understand taking time (some time) for parts to arrive, when we talked on January 6th he told me he'd had the gas shocks for the bay doors for over a month. Why not let me know and give me the choice to have them fixed immediately. Along with the new track he was going to put in the window.

You can get the gas shocks at any good auto store like Napa, Auto Zone, etc. and install them yourself. They will even show you how to install them if you need to learn. Best to remove the old shock and take it to the store for a good fit.
