Radiator Leaking

I have a question regarding my RV its a 1994 Fleetwood Flair .

I have a weird leak i quess, I fill the radiator and it will hold water for weeks and i had a mechanic tedst the pressure in the radiator and it held about 10+ pounds. But after i drive around or even idle the RV for about 20 t0 30 minutes . it runs good doesnt over heat at all. But as soon as i park the RV 10 minutes later the radiator i quess starts leaking. I dont understand . any suggestions ?
  • I chased a leak for a whole season. Turned out to be a small secondary connection on radiator for recirculation line. It was in a location that I could not see, but I kept at it till I located the intermittent leak. Moral of the story keep looking the tech only see the vehicle for a few hours yo can keep after it till you find the issue.

  • It sounds exactly like what "enblethen" stated....water pump. I've seen many of them do this. It's easy to check, lay down on the ground and look up behind the water pump with a flashlight. You'll probably see stains from where it's dripping.

Water pumps can look like a radiator leak because the nose of the water pump is so close to the radiator.
  • Ditto on the cap. When you say the "radiator" is leaking, can you see where it's coming from? I had a similar issue with my P30 chassis. The cap was bad and it was leaking down the neck but also allowing the overflow tank to overfill. When that happens, you wind up low on coolant because it doesn't get drawn back in as it cools.
  • Look under the water pump. There is a small vent hole.
When engine is hot the bearing/seal expands and doesn't leak. When it cools the bearing/seal leaks.
Look for a small rust trail.
    What chassis?
  • You mite also look for loose hose clamps. Radiator and heater clamps.
  • I would check to make sure the pressure cap is working OK. Also check the over flow line to make sure it is open connected properly and the overflow container doesn't have leaks. You didn't say exactly where the leak was at. Usually when a vehicle is shut off the temp rises and fluid goes into the overflow. If it can't it will run out on the ground.
