Refrigerator Displays Fault Light

Is it normal for a refrigerator to occasionally shut down and display the fault light while traveling? It has become a part of my routine every time I stop to check if the frig has shut down. On a recent 300 mile day, I had to reset it 3 times. It never gives me problems when I am stopped, either on propane or electric.

Thanks, Gary
  • Mine did that a while back. I cleaned out the burner and flew. Solved the problem..
  • I have never had that happen while driving. Whether it's a 100 mile trip or an 800 mile trip.

  • I only see refer fault codes displayed during startup while there is air in the propane lines. After that I have never seen a refer fault code.
  • I'm not an expert on refrigs but I have never seen a fault light on mine. That makes me think it is not normal.
  • Fault lights are never NORMAL.......they indicate an issue

If it is due to propane failing while in transit then could be air flow, baffling, out of adjustment ignitor, dirty burner etc.

    NORMAL....no.
  • Definitely NOT normal. If it's a wind issue then it can be solved with better baffles or screening on the outside door.

Most RVers do not want, accept or put up with the refer shutting down while traveling.

Thank you for the reply...I just didn't know if this was normal or not.

  • Yes, that is normal. A wind gust can blow out the burner but most of the time it is a wind hitting the side of the RV, when the burner goes out the board will try and re light it but if the wind is too strong it may not re light thus the fault. Another thing that may also cause this is a large amount of oil in the line, settling in a low spot in the line stopping the flow of propane.
