Is there a list of ballpark MH repair/replacement costs? I've been poking around and can find figures here and there but not a list and thought I'd ask if anyone has one or knows where one is?

such as:

Tires $2000 -$3500
Generator replacement $ - $
Air Con Unit replacement $ - $
Transmission Overhaul $ - $
Etc.

Thanks

You will need to put aside about $2200 per year for maintenance and tire replacement if you have a diesel pusher. I do not know what the costs for a gas coach would be.

To answer your question directly Tires are about right, genset $5000, AC $3000, Transmission $2000,. I think a better way to understand the total cost of maintenance, and repair cost would be to take the total cost of maintenance, mods and repairs and divide the cost by the number of years. Based on my data it cost me $1300/year over a 10 year period and 80,000 miles of travel. I don't know if this is high or low just my experience.

To broad of a category for meaningful answers. Can you do some of the maintenance? Do you need to take it to someone to change light bulbs?
By used to save on the deprecation.
I self insure instead of buying expensive "Breakdown/Warrantee" insurance. You should get Coach Net for roadside assistance.
If you do your maintenance you will have few problems.

???
My rough numbers
$10,000/ year depreciation
10,000 miles of fuel/year
6 months of campgrounds
All come to about $120-$130/day
To have all my stuff, my food, my bed
That seems cheap!

I didn't have any repairs, it was in the depreciation

Sorry for the hijack, I know that wasn't the OP s question....

I gotta chime in here to say that in no shape form or fashion did I buy my coach with the intention of saving money. Nor did I buy it with the intention of reselling it for a profit. There are just too many factors in maintaining a coach that must be calculated into the equation. I, like every other coach owner, am losing money at every turn with it. Fortunately, I'm able to do most of my routine maintenance and general repairs so the savings on labor allow me to feel more comfortable about owning the coach. Since we bought it, I've read so many posts with owners worrying about the difference in costs between 5 and 7 mpg.....not a lot of difference...not worth worrying about. And if that's what one is worrying about prior to purchasing, then one might ought to re-think one's position about buying a coach. They are not cheap to purchase, own or operate...but they are a helluva lot of fun!!!!

It's a good question because many RVers brag about their low cost trips and forget to factor in all the long range cost; the biggest of all being the depreciation of the RV.

of the list you posted estimating tire replacement is the easiest. make a few calls and compare pricing. and you want an out-the-door price...mounted, balanced, new valves, etc. figure on replacing your tires no later than every 7-years (some folks will say 5-7 and others will say they've been driving on 20-yr old tires). the point is you can easily budget for tire replacement.

what we do is set aside $X every month for RV maintenance and repair and an additional $X each month for tire replacement. all of the maintenance and repairs on our current MH have been paid for from this fund. same when I replaced all 6 tires 7-years ago.

Son and I both have motorhomes. He says "Everytime I take it in for repair it's $300". Seriously, it can be a lot more but I don't know about a list. The labor charge can vary from $70/hr. to $120/hr. I think 6 tires was around $1100 but my MH basically takes truck tires so a big Class A would be much more. Having the brakes rebuilt was well over $1000.

Cost of repairs come in two camps... a BUNCH and NOT SO MUCH...:B:B...sorry..:W

Valid question and maybe we could start a ball park list, but I'm not sure how accurate it might be.

Repairs have a wide range of "issues"...Tires, for instance, Michelin 22.5 run around $650-700/tire, while Double Coin run about $400. Another example, I had the front brakes done on my coach, pads, rotors and calipers at a cost of $10,000. The calipers alone were $3600/EA! Unique situation but that alone could skew any cost list....Dennis
