Rheostat in AquaHot Bay?

I have not figured out the purpose of the rheostat on the wall in the AquaHot bay on my 2008 Signature. I think I was told once before, but with all the other stuff I have had to learn about this coach, I have forgotten this small detail and can't find it in the manual.

Help?
  • My AH is in the same bay as the water tanks, and the radiator/fan is on the passenger side of that bay near the AH. I have no idea when I will be in freezing weather to play with it, and I might go with your suggestion and install a Tstat with temp read as well.

Sounds like you have more room in that bay than I do Ivylog. I do have a little space and I do have it consumed with 'stuff'.

Sorry, should have explained how I set mine.... On a freezing day I open the bay door and using a IR temp gun I waited until the probe on the Tstat got to 36 and then I could hear it click as I turned it. With the heat from the A Hot I doubt it even comes on until it's well below freezing.
Contrary to the warning not to store anything in that bay, I built a short wooden platform that clears the water lines and pump on the floor. I put a medium sized tool box on it plus the rods for my awnings and a 10 lb foam fire extinguisher fit in there.
  • Mine didn't have any numbers either. I replaced it with a simple two wire thermostat. We do some pretty cold spring camping and just using the AQH for the house keeps the basement well above freezing. I have it set on 36 as well and not sure that it has ever come on.

This assumes that the AQH unit is in the same bay as all of your tanks and utility connections. As we all know not all Monacos were laid out the same below decks. :) :)

How did you set it to 36 degrees? Mine is just a large potentiometer, no hash marks to determine the temp setting.

  • Maybe for the basement part of the system?...Cargo bay/water pipe basement heat..most aqua hot coaches have that as part of it.
