Rochester NH to Brandy Pond ME

In need of travel info on above subject matter and trying to decide on the shorter scenic route over highways 16, 5 and 11 or 16s, I95n and 302? This would be in regard to the road itself and if there are any hard climbs to contend with. Our coach doesn't necessarily like towing our heavy Wrangler up long steep grades and have already encountered one with our approach into Bennington VT. I'm told at this campground (Greenwood Lodge and camping) that there's only one more and not as bad, before reaching the ME border via RT 9, 202..etc.
  • This is not a particularly mountainous area, so I don't think you will have a problem with hills on any of those routes. However, the state highways in Maine often leave much to be desired, so I usually use I-95 and US 302 to reach the Brandy Pond area.

Will there be tolls on I95 to contend with, as well and definitely not in a hurry?
  • Yes. I-95 has tolls. I pay them for the ease of use of the good roads. As I said, the alternate routes are of varying quality and sometimes very rough, or narrow, or have low-hanging trees to contend with. But if you wish to avoid tolls you will have to find another route.
  • Decided to visit the back country and good news with a lot of new pavement on 202. The plan was to turn on to 302, but mistakenly went with the GPS for a shortcut on to 35 and then really got the royal rural tour and that part of it, wasn't so great. Anyway, thanks for the up on the terrain in general.
