Roof tape?

My 1994 Holiday Rambler Imperial with a Aluminum roof has the thick tape down the center of the roof. But it looks like its getting soft and maybe even water under it. What should I do? peel it off and replace with new tape? or use a strong sealant and cover what there. what would you do?
  • If Eternabond is properly applied chances are it's not leaking. I would use something like a small flat screwdriver and gently lift the area where you suspect it's loose and see if it actually is. Mine is 4 years older than yours, the tape is obviously not new, but the seal is still intact and there are no problems.
  • If you can't remove the old tape, cut off any loose tape, clean, and recover with wider eternabond tape. I had to do that to the slide top on my Holiday Rambler.

  • Hey David, I just completed a project on my 87 Gulfstream. I bought a
5gal bucket of henry's white elastic roof coating. I had had a problem
area on the right front from where the batwing was. I removed the tape
there and used a tape they sold with it that looks like gause.

You put a coat of the sealant down and then place the tape into it.
after it dries then re-coat. The rest of the roof because of time
constraints I just sealed then taped and re-sealed. put about three
coats on altogether and I am in the northwest we have had about 10 inches of rain in the last 5 days and no leaks at all.

Bought the stuff at Home Depot. cost was about 100.00 for sealer, tape, and brush to apply. Hope that helps.
